the dudes in my family went on a big bad bike trip this past weekend. they had several burst tyres when going through the tankwa karoo. so if you ever decide to do that… take lots of spares. i wish you could take a train right through the karoo – i would LOVE that! and i don’t mean the typical blue train route… more off the beaten track. kind of impossible to take a train to Die Hel though.
“leaking toxins from where?”
bored to death is a new show on HBO. ok wait – this has jason schwartzman, zach galifianakis AND ted danson in it. it also has a great tagline: “a noir-rotic comedy”. i bet it never airs in south africa, or gets cruelly cancelled before it reaches our shores (much like arrested development, or something)
confession: i used to have a total crush on ted danson when i was a kid! yes, something about his dry wit / sarcasm. there was cheers, of course, but i LOVED him in 3 men and a baby / little lady. hah. come on, i was only 7ish. anyway, he’s like the original hugh laurie.
now i have a semi-crush on jason schwartzman and zach galifianakis. don’t really have a type, i guess.
wedding invitation stationery by katie kirk (love that they’re so bright and cheerful)

I’ve said many times before that 30 Rock is my favourite show. The Office comes in at a very close second (if not a tie). The US Office, that is. I can watch these back to back, over and over. So glad that Season 6 is out.
(there’s a sound bite above, for those of you viewing this in rss readers)
buster keaton, he had the most beautiful deadpan expression.
i didn’t take a lot of photos in berlin, so i guess this isn’t an accurate description of what i saw & took in on my trip there. when you travel so much you sometimes get lazy on the photography front, thinking it will be all good & you’ll just remember it all. but you don’t! you should take pics all the time.
bumper fashion special #17 – all the spring shows are starting to blur into one, will pick up with more ‘normal’ fashion specials next week!

after looking over my selections these past few weeks, i realised i will never tire of the cinched waist. i am also really intrigued by eley kishimoto’s african / asian / retro fabrics.
and some street style, there have been some fantastic looks the past few weeks…
in each city ami asks 50 of its inhabitants to hand-draw a map to a place of their choosing, a place that is significant or important to them personally, for any reason. she then uses the maps to navigate to each location and take a photograph to represent each location. the ° books portray a side of each city as interpreted by those who live and work in it every day. its not a “guide” to the new café or club, but rather, a unique way of discovering different parts of the city.
a friend of a friend took these photos in namibia, after they had heavy rainfall sometime at the beginning of this year. the colours are pretty much out of this world.
it looks like SO much fun! photos from the big picture.
my sister-in-law is german, and her entire family & all her friends came from germany to south africa for their wedding, and i have never ever seen anyone drink like the germans can. and not fall down drunk either, they just keep going and going. they were like the energizer bunnies of drinking and revelry. in fact, the wedding was a 3 day affair in probably the hottest february weather i have ever experienced, and while i was lying in the shade somewhere fanning myself, the germans were sitting in the full on sun going lobster red and drinking beer and wine like it was going out of fashion.
that’s what i imagine oktoberfest to be like!
