oktoberfest

it looks like SO much fun! photos from the big picture.

my sister-in-law is german, and her entire family & all her friends came from germany to south africa for their wedding, and i have never ever seen anyone drink like the germans can. and not fall down drunk either, they just keep going and going. they were like the energizer bunnies of drinking and revelry. in fact, the wedding was a 3 day affair in probably the hottest february weather i have ever experienced, and while i was lying in the shade somewhere fanning myself, the germans were sitting in the full on sun going lobster red and drinking beer and wine like it was going out of fashion.

that’s what i imagine oktoberfest to be like!

dee-baby-bday

i was born 26 years ago today (eep). my family has a tradition that when one of the kids has their first birthday, they get their own cake & have carte blanche with it. mine was vanilla with pink icing, a sign of things to come –  vanilla is still my favourite.

i still eat cake like that, too.

My work mines the debris of memory through the creation of intricate worlds sculpted in 1:43 scale and smaller. Often sealed under glass, the works depict the remnants of things past—whether major, transformational experiences, or the quieter moments that resonate loudly throughout a life. In much the way the mind recalls events through the fog of time, the works distort reality through a warped and dreamlike lens.

thomas doyle‘s miniature worlds, in a similar vein as amy bennett & jonah samson
