Bumper Fashion Special No. 19

you know, i’ve been skimping on the bumper fashion specials lately, mostly because i haven’t come across a lot of summer stuff that i find very inspiring (especially since at least 90% of what we’re exposed to fashion wise is from the north, where they are now settling into deep winter – jackets, coats, scarves, layers etc). so if you’re a southern african like me (or any other southern cousin), you’ll be experiencing 30+ degree heat by now – and black tights are the furthest things from your mind. that being said, i’ve done my best to collect some summer goodness from around the web. note: i’m not counting the spring / summer 2010 shows, which i covered pretty extensively here, here, here & here

herewith bumper fashion special #22

american gigolo
and for something slightly different, if you don’t follow café mode you really should – geraldine dormoy does an interesting series on the visual stylings in films she enjoys. her latest offering was american gigolo (which i haven’t seen because i don’t enjoy richard gere, but might have to rent now since it has the gorgeous lauren hutton in it). some stylish scenes….

oooms

oooms is a dutch design company that makes original, quirky & often hilarious products. “We design products, small or big, for ourselves and for others. We focus on high quality and originality.” i want all of these:

road kill carpet:

http://i.imgur.com/RAdkO.jpg

Do you know the feeling that you do not want to take a look at something, but you still do? The Road Kill carpet is a continued struggle between attraction and repulsion. It’s a warm, soft, cuddly carpet that attracts you to take a nap on it. But at the same time its a repulsive image of a car-flattened, bloody fox.

goldplated staples:

http://i.imgur.com/gOjmw.jpg

Studio OOOMS thinks we can all agree that the overly bland corporate environment can use any type of excitement boost that it can get. Enter these 14 Karat goldplated staples.  Intended primarily as a form of jewelry, these luxury pieces can be applied to clothing (or just about anything) with the help of your average stapler. Of course you can also impress your boss by turning in your next report decked out in gold. He will feel you.

rebellious cabinet:

The drawers of this cabinet can never be fully closed. When closing one drawer, the one next to it will open a bit. If you want to open a drawer that is fully closed, you just hit, kick or push the drawer next to it.

rocker:

http://i.imgur.com/PwPKz.jpg

‘Rocker’ is an universal attachment to turn almost any four-legged chair into a real rocking chair. Depending on the chair of your choice, you can get any kind of rocking chair; from very relaxed to a more active one.

six pack:

http://i.imgur.com/1qFpe.jpg

The Sixpack is a bottle carrier that can hold up to 6 beer, soft drink, or water bottles. It’s perfect for those BYO dinner outings where a normal 6 pack gets destroyed after you rip out one beer.

continuing with the backward uploading of photos from my european travels, these are from a trip to prague. the city is just as pretty as you’d imagine, but jammed with tourists (even in late november – the place must be positively bursting at the seams in summer). it’s always best to wander away from the crowds, and hopefully you’ll find yourself in some tiny street with no one else around. see more at my flickr.

root beer

one of the many reasons i love creative people is because they have the best & most original gift ideas. erin jang says,

My husband loves good root beer. For his birthday I bought a vintage soda crate and filled it with 24 different kinds of root beer and made a cheat sheet of each brew’s flavor based on some root-beer fanatics’ reviews that I found online.  The husband loved the gift and I made him promise to me that he would ration out the sodas over a very. long. period. of. time.

also be sure to visit erin’s blog to see her beautiful design & illustration work (her wedding invitations are covetable)

drop caps

http://i.imgur.com/XIvTX.png

i’ve been holding out on posting about jessica hische‘s daily drop cap project, but as she recently updated her website i thought it was fitting.

http://i.imgur.com/ykTqR.png

Daily Drop Cap is a project I started in September of 2009 in which I illustrate a decorative letter every day (or at least every work day). The project will continue for approximately twelve alphabets and are available for non-commercial use as drop caps on your personal blog.
