small is cool

if you choose to live on your own as a young person (and i say this assuming that you don’t earn major bucks or perhaps you live in an expensive city – or both) you will probably be faced with the reality of renting a studio apartment. unless you’re an investment banker, or you won the lotto, or your granddad left you a sweet inner city pad the size of an ark that he bought back in 1950 for R500, or you’ve found some 3 bedroom palace with wooden floors and a working fireplace that’s being rented out for tuppence. if you’re one of those people, please don’t pity me. for i might be jumping on the studio flat bandwagon one of these days, and of course in lieu of that, the first thing i consider is HOW TO DECORATE.

happy pancake day

pancakes

i woke up this morning and it was raining. yay, said me. i love the rain, mostly because it’s the anti-heat (and i loathe heat) plus it also brings that lovely aaah smell in the air. it’s also pancake weather. that was our family tradition (is it yours, too?) – when it rained, mom made pancakes.

frances may

frances may is a shop in portland, oregon that sells womenswear (and some menswear too) from designers such as vena cava, rachel comey, mociun, alexander wang and more.

Portrait of Elizy (1905) Stanisław Wyspiański

actually a pastel, ho hum (should this be a daily art post? no, too broad). highly recommend googling him for more pastelly goodness.

peter baker

i agonized for about 5 seconds over whether i had posted about peter baker before (i’m pretty sure i haven’t, but my tagging can be sporadic). even if i have – these photographs warrant a second look. and a third & fourth etc. i just love them, especially his images of iceland (what is with me and iceland?). i could hardly pick my top photos to feature, so please go over to his flickr and have a gander.

homer every day

i’m sure you’ve all seen this video. what i didn’t know was that the simpsons parodied it (what an honour!)

i laughed at the youtube credits at the end. if i ever had to make something like this, i would put the happiest music in the background. seriously, no one’s life should have a sad piano soundtrack.

head first

it took me a while to warm up to goldfrapp. i think i had my fall in love moment when listening to happiness at full blast on that leafy drive from the southern suburbs over the mountain to hout bay (if you know cape town, you’ll know).
