want to step away from the usual white-walled inspirations, try to expand my interior horizons. these rooms by renowned design firm roman & williams = just the trick. their portfolio of work is simply amazing.

(i know that’s a white wall. i know.)

i wish more wedding photography was like this. simple, no props, no stunts, no bells and whistles – just capturing a real moment. photograph by courtney brooke.

i don’t think that dude in the background is a prop by the way.
so i freaked out back when i found the visual telling of stories the first time. since then i’ve been quietly browsing, sending myself emails reminding me of links, artists, works i like. truth is i like most everything over there. here’s some.

the story of lipstick lizz just made me laugh. sort of reminds me of another liz (lemon)
panoply – a word i never knew existed until i listened to the king is dead (too often in the past week, i must admit.) colin meloy, you wordsmith you. these photos are from the life archives (where else?)

another double feature for your pleasure. pippa and meg are two gals from durban who run a vintage store and blog called the thrift collection. there are many things i want on this list – but i’d probably give the rollerskates to my niece. pretty hopeless with wheels attached to my feet, i tell you. follow them on twitter here.
things i like right now by pippa and meg of the thrift collection

another edition of these things.
‘alles’ means ‘everything’ in afrikaans (and in german & dutch too.) i’m not sure what it is about this illustration that i love so much, but i want to frame it or photocopy it or make it my wallpaper or tattoo it on me. perhaps if i were a professional hairdresser that would make sense, but alas. i love that there is a tooth missing from the comb.

and this room.

jan and rohan run a graphic design company called fanakalo in my hometown of stellenbosch. i regularly see their designs when i’m walking around town, especially on posters for local markets and on many a south african wine.
i LOVE this wine label design they did for helderberg wijnmakerij. i remember seeing it for the first time when i was wandering around in my supermarket’s wine section trying to decide what to get. living in the winelands means we are spoilt for choice & on top of that i’m a total wine heathen… i don’t really know what is good or not (when it’s cheap it’s bad, right?) THEN i saw this bottle and picked it up right away. another case of judging a book (slash wine) by its cover – this usually works out for me, though. if something has a great design 99% of the time the product is great too.

the rest of their work is wonderful too…

discovering the “mirth response test” series was my very own mirth response test (result: positive)

(this is totally something i can imagine the peeps at sterling cooper draper price doing – with don draper just sitting there, not enjoying it. thinking about something else. brooding.)
