Through the Jungle

it’s a new month – music mix time. i know things have been kind of slow on the blog lately, but i’m totally blaming it on the mass of public holidays we’ve had around here. been having too much fun offline during the holiday time – as i’m sure is the case with many of you south africans. that’s actually why this mix is 2 days late. how embarrassing.

i have been wanting to make a compilation that included a creedence clearwater revival edit / remix for ages now. there was a nice response to R/MX … so i guess this is like a R/MX Vol. 02.

must thank greta who sent me the nico remix. i try not to have too many repeats around here but it’s a pretty cool take on these days. it’s ever so slightly hit and miss in places, but i still couldn’t resist putting it in. the owner of a lonely heart edit is admittedly just sort of… a better version of the original. oh i love it. it stays.

also need to take this opportunity to make a shout out to a reader who emailed asking if i could perhaps create a mix that would help mend her recently broken heart. i hope you are feeling better and that this mix will help cheer you up a bit (even though adele features…) well, perhaps it will make you dance long enough to forget your troubles!

Through the Jungle. playlist:

  1. Creedence Clearwater Revival – Down On the Corner (Emynd Drum Edit)
  2. Feist – I Feel It All (Escort Remix)
  3. Fever Ray – Seven (The Twelves Remix)
  4. Leann Grimes – Old Bodies Slip When They Make Love (remix of The Morning Benders)
  5. Missy Elliott – Hot (Ratatat Remix)
  6. Charlotte Gainsbourg – The Operation (25 Hours A Day Remix)
  7. Adele – Rolling in the deep  (Villa Remix)
  8. Yes – Owner of Lonely Heart (Disco Syndicate’s no owner edit)
  9. Peter Bjorn & John – Second Chance (RAC Mix)
  10. Dolly Parton – 9 To 5 (Butch Le Butch Remix)
  11. Nico – These Days (Shinichi Osawa Edit)
  12. Fleetwood Mac – Everywhere (Psychemagik Edit)

ps: i cut that dolly parton remix down, here’s the original which is 8 minutes long – if you can handle it (i know i can)

  1. hooray, hoorah! i’ve been blog slacking lately too. unfaithful to the blog. had a bit of blog malaise. etc. i’ve been reading & gallivanting about a lot instead.

that’s acceptable though. it’s more unacceptable when you do it, because then i can’t read (or stare at) your posts. haaa. true, though.

I’ve been meaning to tell you- besides just loving your blog, I absolutely LOVE your playlists. I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago and immediately downloaded all of them. They’re the best. I play them on my long rides to work, play them on the work stereo, blast them in my apartment, and dance around to your playlists when I’m getting ready in the morning. THE BEST. Thanks so much.

  3. Thanks Miss!
It´s very enriching to discover new music through you… through your jungle!

  4. So sold on this mix that I went and downloaded all the rest… and I’m one of those people who has trouble clicking on a video when it pops up in my reader. Especially that Adele! Nice nice nice. You should check out Hooded Fang, I think you’d like them (especially ‘Promise Land’ and ‘Ghost’). You can listen to all the songs on the CBC radio 3 website, a nice resource for (Canadian) independent music :)

  5. Another brilliant compilation – thanks for sharing this! I’m going to use it to keep me going through my half marathon training. Looking forward to the next playlist already :)

  6. loving your appreciation for remixes / mash-ups. Are you familiar with mash-up artist Girl Talk? I highly recommend you check out his albums (Feed The Animals, Night Ripper, All Day). He has a knack for mixing the unexpected, old and new, across seemingly disparate genres. The first track I heard of his won me over, due in part to a pleasant surprise that rolls in at minute 3:40…that really “nothing compares” to….

hope you enjoy!! (it’s the least I can do for all the listening pleasure you’ve filled my work-days with!!)
