Ulyana Sergeenko

yesterday i had a jaw on the floor moment when i saw the lookbook for the debut collection by Ulyana Sergeenko spotted on Lisa’s blog (do you read Lisa’s blog? you should). you may know Ulyana from street style blogs, as she is often seen at various fashion weeks around the world. i didn’t even realise that she was a designer – but the collection is 100% her. especially when she was spotted in this red dress and wore these shoes, not to mention this little get up.

Of a Kind Giveaway!

*  the giveaway is now closed * congratulations to Laura! *

this is the first time i have ever done a giveaway on the blog – a pretty momentous occasion! and who better to kick off the giveaway fun than something special from Of a Kind? literally, very special. each week Of A Kind releases a limited edition item in a small batch, which is designed elusively for them. that means you can be one of only a few people in the whole world who has a one of a kind piece.

so, i’m psyched to offer one lucky reader this beautiful Pyrite Pyramid Necklace by Sophie Monet.

Pyrite – also known as fool’s gold – is courting the spotlight these days, and we haven’t seen the material put to better use than in this pendant necklace created by Sophie Monet. The shiny, irregular surface of the rock plays well with the smooth, geometric chunk of shedua wood.

…one of only 20 made! all you need to do in order to enter the giveaway is subscribe to the Of A Kind newsletter  (so you’ll be the first to hear about their new releases) and leave a comment below.

i’m also happy to tell you that this giveaway is open to anyone anywhere in the world as Of a Kind offers international shipping. readers outside the US must please note that, as with all international shipping, you may be subject to your country’s customs charges / import duties upon arrival.  the giveaway ends on Monday 12 September, and the winner will be randomly selected in a lucky draw.

School Spirit

i’ve been following Tavi‘s new online magazine Rookie“an online publication for teenage girls featuring writing, photography, illustrations, videos, and more” – since it launched this week …and i’m actually pretty jealous because i wish something as smart as Rookie had existed when i was a teen. readers are in for a treat just going by their list of contributors (many of whom i recognise from flickr and around the internet). one such person is Petra Collins who i posted about earlier this year – she styled & photographed this editorial for Rookie called School Spirit.

Heaven Hill

Heaven Hill, as it is known to the few who have been lucky enough to experience it, is a Big Sur south coast mountain compound located on Alms Ridge and surrounded by vast expanses of protected National Forest in all directions. On the property’s thirty six acres of jaw-dropping wilderness, three creeks from the untouched Wild Cattle Creek watershed combine to form a year round stream that flows through the property’s massive cathedral of ancient redwoods.

Electric Spring

25 electric spring

it is the first of september, which in south africa is traditionally spring day. well, spring day usually doesn’t fail to be delightfully miserable weather wise as far as my memory serves… probably due to the fact that the seasons only turn on 23 september this year (the spring equinox, which is also my birthday – write that down).

still, couldn’t resist temptation and so created a semi-electro inspired spring mix to kick off my favourite month.

Electric Spring. Playlist:

  1.  Alex Winston – Velvet Elvis (RAC Remix)
  2. St. Vincent – Cruel
  3. Future Islands – Balance
  4. Mina Tindle – Os Argonautas
  5. Little Majorette – Never Be The Same
  6. Toro Y Moi – New Beat (Star Slinger Dancehall Mix)
  7. Purity Ring – Ungirthed
  8. Kisses – Kisses (Electric Sunset Remix)
  9. Scenic – Another Sky (The Magician Remix)
  10. Phoenix – North (Crystalised remix)

all music is for sampling purposes only – please go out and buy the artists’ records & support them at their shows!
