Animal Love

i’m going to revive the photo bomb series because my flickr favourites are so vast, but i’ve decided to share new, old and favourite photographers theme by theme because otherwise all you get is a disconnected bunch of photos and this isn’t tumblr, folks. if you want to explore past flickr favourites in the archives, you can check out the photo bombflickr tags… or just browse the photography category.

so for this week’s photo bomb the theme is animals & pets. i’m pretty starved for animal love right now, since moving earlier this year i don’t get to see my family’s pooches all too often, and i live in an apartment that doesn’t allow pets. at the moment it’s fine because i’m not home all too often anyway and that is super unfair on a cat or a dog (especially if you don’t have a garden), but it also means that i fawn over basically every single animal i get to see in real life. if you’re walking down the street with your dog (or cat? maybe you’re into that) then i WILL stop and say hi. to your animal, i will probably ignore you completely.

please click on the photo to be taken to the original on flickr.

finally got to check out the beautifully styled tamboers winkel (de lorentz street, just off kloof). we indulged in a poached pear and blackforest ham sarmie and cauliflower & vanilla soup (yummo)

visited my favourite furniture shop space for life

…and was really tempted to buy this guy (left) which would have been perfect to house my new plant (right)

got some cool gifts lately – sandals from A.P.C. (dreamy) and a personalised marmite bottle (rad)

anton got this wooden chandelier from david krynauw & (unrelated) we made fruit balloons for amy’s 30th

other than that it’s been cold and rainy at times, which calls for lots of tea.

Alexander Terekhov

i spend quite a lot of time on etsy and other shopping sites looking for the perfect floral skirt, so i couldn’t help but highlight the floral pieces from the fall winter 2012/13 lookbook of russian designer Alexander Terekhov. the entire collection is quite wonderful, but there’s just something about these women swanning around paris (i think it’s paris?) in blooming skirts and dresses that’s bound to make all the ladies out there rather envious.

Anna di Prospero

Anna di Prospero is an Italian photographer who has been working on a self-portrait series called With You, where she appears alongside family members and friends. i like that even though it’s a self-portrait series she isn’t necessarily the star of the images – but the focus if rather about her relationship with these important people in her life. however you may interpret it, the images themselves are absolutely beautiful – with an amazing rich colour palette that runs through the entire series.

Fantastic Frank

if you’re like me you probably like settling down with a cup of coffee and the weekend newspaper on a sunday morning and flip straight to the property section where you play the always fun game if i had a billion rand / dollars / pounds which house would i buy?

this game would be about 1000 times funner if the visuals in the property sections were on par with what’s going on at Fantastic Frank. this swedish real estate agency styles & photographs the homes in their property portfolio so beautifully that you’d want to move in right away.

A home is more than the size and space between the dwelling walls. Our minds are more affected by light and colors, the sounds and structures than of a designed chair. We feel good when we are inspired, when we feel that there is a purpose to what we surround ourselves with. When the home has a character we can have a relationship with it.

It is when you look at the property in nature as you can see who will live in the next. Therefore, when characterful homes passed, the goal is always to reach the few who love the home, rather than to reach very many people who just like it. It is the philosophy behind the way we convey housing, and that is why Fantastic Frank created.
