i am really loving all the new arrivals at Totokaelo, and especially love how they have styled and shot their products. seeing actual movement makes such a difference, i think. i’m also pretty jealous that the northerners are moving into autumn… my favourite season. glad we will get to experience a snippet of that again next month when we visit NYC.
i was so pleased to get an email from Elizabeth Pape introducing me to her line Elizabeth Suzann. a self taught designer, Elizabeth is based in Nashville and her design focuses on simplicity, clean lines, and longevity.
i first noticed Megan & Mike Gilger of The Fresh Exchange when they tagged me in an Instagram photo of their travels in Cape Town – they had been making use of my Cape Town City Guide to discover some cool places to see. i always get the warm and fuzzies when people tell me that the guide helped them in some way, and when anyone visits my city for that matter, so I clicked over to their site and what a nice discovery.
i always love receiving news from Christine of Young Frannk, as i’m a huge fan of her jewellery. she just launched her AW 13 collection, and it is accompanied by a beautiful, dark & moody lookbook. i like the fact that the vibe is switched up with every new season (see previous collections here). you can shop the AW 13 collection at her website – especially love that simple sunrise charm necklace and the hammered brass choker.
Pitchouguina is a London based label with Russian origins, by designer Anna Pitchouguina. i love the combination of gold and pale pink and grey, and especially love the detailing on many of these pieces – making them interesting yet wearable.
hello! i am currently in the midst of one of the most exciting (and busiest) times of my life. yesterday the awful rain and hail we’ve been having stopped very suddenly, and we were greeted with snow and SUN – basically the perfect combination – for my bridal shower. my bridesmaids and family and friends went above and beyond to make me feel so incredibly loved (with some laughs thrown in for good measure). as if that wasn’t enough, it is my birthday today. i am 30! it feels good. especially when you wake up to coconut cake in bed.
Katja Mustaniemi is a creative designer from Finland who designed the Tuokka backpack as part of her final thesis at the Lahti Institute of Design and Fine Arts. it is such a beautiful piece, and i absolutely loved seeing her entire design process on her website. now the question is, where can we buy one?
poking around the Life archives i came upon these photos of Princess Margaret visiting “British East Africa”, today Kenya, Uganda, Zanzibar and Tanzania. i mostly wanted to share these because of that fabulous dress she’s wearing in the first few images. she seemed like a fun royal, someone who was likely to cause a bit of trouble. plus she had cool sunglasses.
i love Aussie brand Gorman – their prints just scream S U M M E R. and since us south africans, and our counterparts in the southern hemisphere, are going into spring i feel like this is the kind of stuff everyone should be wearing. at the moment we are still having some cooooold days, but perhaps if we, as a collective, wear beautiful bold prints it will force the sun to come out.
