Vintage Ballet

i watched the series City Ballet, which was produced by Sarah Jessica Parker, all in one sitting when it was released. it’s really enthralling, and a world that only a few really understand (watching Black Swan does not count). every now and then i’ll dip into an episode while i’m eating lunch at my desk. watch it!

here are some vintage ballerinas from the Life Magazine archives.

    What beautiful photographs!!

I have yet to watch City Ballet, but am certainly going to check it out now.

Before moving countries recently, I loved my job working in the wardrobe department of a ballet company. Getting to watch the performances from the wings, changing dancers costumes side of stage, the drama of it all! Such an experience.

I watched City Ballet when it came out, too. I should revisit it! Ballet documentaries are fascinating. TeenVogue created a documentary series about NY ballet, too. It covers the younger generation.

I did ballet up until the age of 12, when my feet simply couldn’t cope en pointe! I have always wondered about what life would be like if I had continued and fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a ballet dancer – besides the fact that I would have ruined feet!

Lovely post, will have to watch City Ballet!

Wow those pictures! I also watch series while I’m eating, I will also try this one. Must be interesting because I did ballet for a year.

Isn’t it amazing how fascinated we are by ballet? The dancers lives are so intriguing. The hard work, the mental and physical trials. I’ve never heard of this show, I’ll definitely have to start watching it. Thanks!

Great photos. I am very fond of ballet, I used to do rhythmical gymnastics and ballet was always on the back of my mind :) is such a nobly discipline.

So interesting! I know absolutely nothing about ballet. It’s strange how there are pockets of these highly specialized groups of people that know everything about their craft while the outside world knows very little.
