“I like to start my notes to you as if we’re already in the middle of a conversation. I pretend that we’re the oldest and dearest friends – as opposed to what we actually are, people who don’t know each other’s names and met in an “Over 30″ chat room where we both claimed we’d never been before. What will NY152 say today, I wonder. I turn on my computer, I wait impatiently as it boots up. I go on line, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You’ve got mail. I hear nothing, not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beat of my own heart. I have mail. From you.”
i don’t know why i thought about this scene from You’ve Got Mail while i was compiling this week’s Mid Week Distraction, maybe because i feel like i’m sending a list of cool stuff to a faraway pen pal. did your parents ever clip interesting things out of the newspaper and post (or fax!) them to friends & family? that’s what this feels like.
PS be sure to check in the rest of this week – i have a rad giveaway + a new music mix in store!

I’m really a girl of the 1910s!
Okay you have now provided me with enough distraction that I will never get my papers graded for the end of the semester much less write for my own blog. What a clever, eclectic mix. I just found this blog and love it.

Accidental, you will love Diana and her blog! A wealth of awesomeness!
I so prefer the Goodreads book list to the NYT’s list this year.
Kinfolk + holidays = perfection!
I think I just read nearly every single one of the links you posted. In other words, my twenty minute morning coffee just turned into an enthralling 45 minute coffee. Cheers to a quality way to start my day (honestly, these were so interesting… those dolls?!?!?!).
Man these mid week distractions have continually been one of the highlights of my work week. so awesome. thanks you.
Amazing. I look forward to this every Wednesday!
Diana. Thank you, as always! I have been reading your blog for years and funnily enough, consider you to be a faraway friend who sends me (along with thousands of others, but I will ignore that) amazing things to read, savour and view. x
Amazing list, thank you!
I have been loving these mid-week distractions! So good!
