i just got sucked deep into the Penguin by Design tumblr (which is run by Penguin). there are some fascinating interviews with artists who have created their book covers – mostly done by hand. which, in a digital age, is so great to see! i love the Bill Bryson covers by illustrator Neil Gower (i actually bought The Road to Little Dribbling for Anton for Christmas – admittedly partly for the cool cover), and the new-to-me Number 11 illustrated by Jon McNought. also a great resource for what to read next, right?

They are gorgeous, I thought that now everything was made with pc etc!!
Penguin really does bring it with book cover design. They did another really lovely cover for Bonjour Tristesse for their Great Loves series.
Now that I think about it, I’ve never seen a bad cover design for a Françoise Sagan novel. The University of Chicago Press did a great cover for A Certain Smile a few years ago.
Wow. These are just great.
Covers are truly a work of art. Seeing the title “Bonjour Tristesse” brought me back and caused me to have shivers down my spine…..memories of school and having to read this in French (not a lot of translations around then)….
Thank you for finding these! So lovely :)
Thanks for this, I love it. Such an original bunch of inspiration.
wow wow wow LOVE these. Thanks for inspiring me daily!
What a craftsmanship. It looks like its computer made.
