i love all the pieces. the shoes, the bags, the belts, the prints, the sunglasses (!) … if you look at them separately it’s not all so mind-boggling. hey, i’m not knocking marni’s styling – it is what it always is, and it’s great. maybe don’t wear it all at once though? actually do, if you can. more power to you. i know Iris would. it would be like living in a Matisse.

i thought i’d try to talk about music more regularly on here, instead of just resorting to the music mixes every month. here’s someone you need to listen to - First Aid Kit. their new album The Lion’s Roar was released a couple of weeks ago. these photos were taken by Neil Krug, a fantastic photographer whose work you also need to get into. hey, double discovery whammy! also, if you don’t know anything about First Aid Kit – Johanna and Klara are in fact Swedish and were born in the 1990′s (as a child of the eighties it always amazes me when such accomplished people are about a decade younger than myself). now listen to their music, watch their videos, and prepare to have your mind blown.

you’ve probably heard about her project Missed Connections where she illustrates stories from the missed connections section of Craigslist (which is now available as a book). if you haven’t definitely have a browse through her blog, and also check out her new project Drawn from my Father’s Adventures.

Mother stems from the desire to rid the fashion world of the notion that modern feminism is the absence of femininity. I wanted to design clothes for true feminist. Women who are not afraid to be women. Women who don’t muster up the courage to say, “yes” but feel quite comfortable in the ease of saying, “no.” Mother stands for an authoritative approach to femininity. In nature, the more unseen a power, the more of an authoritative the role.

i was hit by one of those dreadful 24 hour flus last night that rendered me completely useless all day today. in between sleeping and keeping one delirious eye on the internet i got a welcome delivery of Kinfolk magazine – a publication i have been wanting to get into since their launch last year. i’m actually ashamed that i had never read a copy till now, only because i almost never bother ordering anything from the US any more since shipping something all the way to south africa is always an issue (lost, bent, damaged, subject to custom charges).

but this beautiful magazine managed to get to my door unscathed, thank goodness – as it really is something to treasure. you can actually read their first issue online and you can buy the second issue for your iPad, but i highly recommend getting a printed copy if you can. it will be an exquisite addition to any library. the story of the honey harvest by sarah winward really captivated me.
