since i seem to be on a wedding trip today, i thought it might be cool to share some pics from the wedding of Jackie & JFK in September 1953, which was taken by Life photographer Lisa Larsen. there were 600 guests, they had 14 ushers and 10 bridesmaids and they ate pineapple salad at their reception.
okay, if you are a regular reader you will know my feelings re: the wedding industry and that my overall hope is that people would have honest, real weddings without the unnecessary hoopla.
…but, i had to show you this. because it’s so ridiculously fantastical i almost cannot believe it’s real. this couple had a costume themed wedding in a french chateau in the loire valley. if you can afford to have your wedding in a chateau you’re already in another league, but this is simply nuts. the bride’s dress was designed by the same costume designer who created michelle pfeiffer’s costumers in dangerous liasons. they even had fireworks on the balcony! marie antoinette, eat your heart out, eh?
the photography is the work of Shawn Connell of the Christian Oth Studio - the quality of which is not unlike something you might expect to see on the pages of Vogue.

ARTS&SCIENCE, shop & brand which bases itself in Tokyo, offers a aifestyle as a whole with fashion as one important essence. -To Wear, To Dwell, and To Eat- The owner and also the creative director Sonya Park, who also works as a fashion stylist, believes that only ‘genuine quality’ can mature and starts to carry personal value and age and time only adds to the perfection of the quality. This leads to her philosophy that fashion is a ‘tool’ in daily life rather than a ‘tool’ for vanity.

whenever i’m daydreaming about fantasy holidays, looking through the directories of beautiful hotels or checking out cheap flights, my mind always wanders back to paris. i have visited the city a number of times, but i can’t seem to get enough of it – you can keep your tropical islands and skiing holidays, all i want is the chance to visit paris again.
Paris in Colour might just satisfy my eternal paris cravings, especially because Nichole Robertson journeys through the city and captures it by colour. you might know her from her blog where she has been sharing bits of paris in colour since she moved there in 2009. you can read more about the project here.

i’m really excited to share the first Food & Fashion Mash-Ups series i did for Bon Appétit Magazine! which is a superb publication by the way, we don’t get it in South Africa but i was lucky enough to be given copies of their two latest issues. something i really appreciated was the beautiful design & layout of each issue – admittedly the first thing i look for in a magazine. i especially loved their story The Incredible Egg and the Insider’s Guide to Paris in their latest issue.

The Hellers is comprised of brother & sister duo Dania and Yoram Heller, who are based out of Tel Aviv and LA. their Spring Summer 2012 line Wild Child of the Aeolian Isles was inspired by the Brontë sisters - imagine Jane Eyre, off on a sun glazed trip to the Aeolian Islands…
On a meaningful trip to Sicily Dania was on last summer, Dania caught up with Cary Fukunaga’s 2011 film version of Jane Eyre. The independent spirit that the story cries out just struck a note with the thoughts of what it means to try and create freely in this time that we live in – especially creating fashion, such a passionate yet highly commercialized field (especially in the last decade).
What came out was the perhaps the most delicate and mature Hellers’ collection yet: oval shapes, metallic bursts, crazy prints – being tamed by a sense of a prim veil reigning it all. It’s a journey where the Bronte’s Jane Eyre leaves the gray moors, and flies off to sunny, musical beaches.
i really have to resist the urge to dip paint almost all of my furniture (and utensils) at the moment. every time i see something beautifully dipped online my eye slowly travels to the legs of my desk and i think… mmm.

Roberto Rubalcava is a photographer originally from Mexico who lives and works in London. he did a series of photographs for swedish knitwear label Jumper Fabriken, which i really love (i previously blogged about them here). the mood of his work veers from light & ethereal to dark & moody… i had trouble picking my favourites – so please do check out his website & flickr for more.

been settling into my new place, which means procuring new pieces of furniture (a slow and budget wary process) including my new couch – which is now boasting some warm textures, ready for winter. also hanging up a few pictures, sunning myself on the balcony with pink drinks and trying not to kill my beautiful succulents (seen above)
i’m lucky enough to live just down the road from the south african national gallery, which means i can pop in there whenever i wish and check out the exhibitions. there are some interesting ones at the mo, listening to distant thunder by peter clarke is a notable one… but i have to admit i was more taken with the wild geese and their babies hanging out on the lawn outside.

i visited the Woodstock Foundry, which is an amazing space on Albert Road in Woodstock that houses such gems as the The Lobby hair shop – also known as the place where i got the best hair cut of my life (need a cut? Craig will sort you out – that goes for boys & girls). also dropped in on my pal Andrew’s place Selah, who is working on some amazing pieces at the mo – note the hanging plant from Opus in the foreground (also located in The Foundry).
