love the goods from fog linen work

perhaps you remember this post i did about these rad DIY shelves? well apartment therapy did a tour of the brick house’s, well, house. the portrait above the desk was naturally the first thing that caught my eye (and the rest of their art is also wonderful). and the kitchen! i would move in right now.
i am positively salivating over these houses by late architect arthur erickson, all designed in the late fifties / early sixties.

the site is a waterfront property located on an island in the archipelago of stockholm. oaks and pines live in meagre soil between sculptural rocks that dominate the landscape. a large section of the site’s upper part is taken by a large oak aged over 500 years

The home features an enormous patio with an elliptical opening designed to accentuate the view. The old-looking barn in the distance even features an underground tunnel that serves as an entrance into the home.

i’m thinking about christmas already. sigh. my family has instituted a one gift per person R100 limit (to combat the “meltdown“). i told them R100 is almost impossible, so i’m shooting for under 200 bucks. anything handmade is great to me, and anything i can order online is even better. if i can walk to a shop – wonderful, but that kind of limits you geographically & since i’m out in “the sticks” (as some might say) i welcome e-commerce with open arms (i’m also lazy). PLUS i’d also like to inject some christmas cheer into the south african postal

have you tried smith’s rosebud salve? i got a tin for my birthday – it smells like roses and flying dreams and puppies and baby powder, not to mention how radical it makes your lips feel
it was formulated in 1892 and contains a secret blend of essential oils & cottonseed oil in a special petrolatum base. an all purpose skin preparation that’s good for relieving chapped lips & skin, diaper rash, blemishes, detergent burns, rough cuticles & softening rough hands.

you can pick it up for R99 at any Melissa’s (it’s really worth it as… Read the rest

this home designed for a ‘malaysian power family’ has nine bedrooms, two family rooms, a family kitchen and a private dining area, a family library, a game room, a study, a public reception area, a formal dining room, a ballroom, chapel, 21 bathrooms, a swimming pool, two guest suites plus indoor private and guest parking. the ballroom has a round chandelier of 13,000 custom-designed undulating petals of unglazed cast porcelain biscuit. top notch – via coolhunter

now i know some of you might think it’s sacrilege to paint over a wooden piece, but the fact of the matter is that this particular chest of drawers only cost me R300 (that’s like, US $40) – and it basically just had a shoddy veneer that was chipping in places.
i also took major shortcuts in it’s ‘resoration’ as i had to do everything in my tiny flat in an afternoon. i would have preferred to sand the entire thing down and give it a lighter oak finish, but that would have involved way
i love grouping things by colour (you’d only need to take a peek at my fashion specials to figure that out) – so i was immediately drawn to these object collages by salbug00. i would attempt this but i don’t think i even own enough stuff, the benefits of living in a small flat i suppose. actually, i did sort all my books by colour – it looked something like this:

just… not as cool.
