it took me a while to warm up to goldfrapp. i think i had my fall in love moment when listening to happiness at full blast on that leafy drive from the southern suburbs over the mountain to hout bay (if you know cape town, you’ll know).
one of my favourite covers is by daniel rossen of grizzly bear, of jo jo’s a little too late
i’m not sure where i heard this song the first time, perhaps in the background of a video on youtube. but i LOVE it. sometimes doo-wop can be slightly annoying, but this is just right – would perfectly accompanying a scene in mad men.
when i heard florence & the machine‘s single rabbit heart the first time, i was totally blown away (that warranted a number of repeat playings), and as i made my way through their album lungs i was doubly blown away by track #9 – cosmic love. this song has resurfaced in my playlist in the past week, after various discussions about it on twitter (everyone agrees, it’s a goosebump inducing & powerful tune). there doesn’t appear to be an official music video (don’t you hate that? my favourite songs never have music videos) – but here’s a very impressive live rendition anyway. if you haven’t yet, get your hands on this album!
i won’t make a habit of posting youtube videos, but this song has resurfaced in my playlist this past week and has enjoyed numerous repeat plays once again (it’s in the top ten most played songs on my ipod). cute video, too.
jeesy, i haven’t done a music post in a while! come to think of it, i was working on a timeline of the music that shaped my life (when i say timeline and working, i mean me flipping through my old CD collection) – but that soon turned into a mini-essay and i decided i wouldn’t bore you with such inanities.
everyday she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair, wraps a towel around her as she’s heading for the bedroom chair – it’s just another day.
