take ivy

for a while there i was a bit obsessed with menswear blogs. perhaps that is the wrong term for them. men’s things blogs? you know - jjjjound, them thangs, haw-lin… i had to downscale my subscription to these manly pursuits because i am a lady, after all. not really – there are just too many pictures to keep up with.

loosely fitting into this category is the trad - a blog written by a southern raised manhattan insurance broker (according to this interview) that revolves around trad style. there is a lot of vintage goodness going on, like this post about princeton in 1966. but it was this post from the depths of ’08 that shows scans from a 1965 book called take ivy that stole my heart.

put a bird on it

i grew up with birds. we had many a budgie, and my mom went through a phase where she bred parrots. so you know, angry african greys were the norm in my house. the one parrot we had perfectly imitated my mom calling me when i was on the other side of the house. so i’d hear, “diaaaaanaaaaaaaa!” and when i went downstairs there’d be no one around – only the parrot sitting in its cage with what i imagined was an amused look on its face.
