first of all i have to thank everyone for the overhwelmingly awesome response to the Food & Fashion mash up. the popularity of the colour comparisons surprises me every single time. i need to find a way to do this for a living.

so i’ve decided to do these things a bit differently today, in an effort to consolidate and try to make a bit of sense (of my thoughts? of things i like? of…. the internet?) now there is a bit of a theme, i suppose, which is never a bad thing.

Kristen Marie Tourtillotte is a wedding photographer based in Seattle who got in touch with me recently to share the wedding of Michelle & Ryan, who got hitched at home amongst their friends, family and pets. i loooooooooove this. everything about it is what i love about small weddings – intimate & personal, mimosas & pies, dancing in the backyard… not to mention Kristen’s beautiful photography. i could barely pick my favourites, be sure to check out the entire wedding.

one of my favourite auction houses Bukowski’s has a new auction coming up called Abstract Possible, the catalogue of which is a delight to browse. i particularly love the work of Mika Tajima and Claire Barclay whose styles are wholly different but whose art i would snap up in a second (if i were a collector with loads of dinero)

Walls

i have come across two Paris based companies in the past week who create beautiful designs for your walls. Minakani Walls is a wallpaper company headed up by Frédéric Bonnin and Cécile Figuette (who are also textile designers) and Bartsch is a decorative painting company run by cousins Gala and Nicolas, who specialise in hand painted patterns for your kid’s walls.

Minakani:

Minakani is a Paris based studio. Frédéric Bonnin and Cécile Figuette create patterns, mainly for textile but not exclusively. They’ve launched their walldecor line 2 years ago and offer custom size and exclusive motifs printed onto high quality non-woven paper.

Bartsch:

Bartsch is a decorative painting workshop specializing in children’s rooms. Gala and Nicolas are cousins who have combined their skills to create collections of chic and playful patterns in their Parisian workshop. Bartsch, whose name comes from their great-grandfather, is the result of the relationship between graphic design and decorative painting. Each pattern is hand-painted directly on the wall. You can see the gesture and the brush strokes; you can feel the texture of the material.

Love vs. Design

i really like the idea of Love vs. Design where you can choose templates for your wedding stationery, personalise them and then have them printed yourself (or get them to print for you). this obviously isn’t a new concept, but the fact is that there are some really nice designs to choose from – so it’s a pretty cool option for people who are on a budget and don’t have the luxury of hiring a designer to whip up their wedding invitations.
