Designed by Palm Springs architect Albert Frey, built in 1946-47 as a bachelor retreat, and expanded later when Loewy got married. Loewy’s home is a typical Palm Springs modernist villa with a low-slung pavilion and plenty of glass providing striking views of desert, mountains, and the pool and garden… making the private oasis complete. Loewy despised “bad modern” design, especially furniture, so the size, shape, and rooms of the home and furnishings were kept simple and spare. It is a demure house of small size but generous impact.

boy oh boy have i been getting a lot of emails, tweets and comments from people hinting that i need to put together another music mix soon. the last one i posted was back in march, and for that i’m sorry – but you see, i have been without a steady internet connection for about 10 weeks (!!) until i finally managed to get internet hooked up in my flat this week. cue: yay. many, many yays.

so i’ve been catching up on what’s been released in the past while, which is always enjoyable. amongst this batch of new tunes is a new passion pit track, which i was really excited for because i LOVED manners – i played that album non-stop when it came out back in 2009. take a walk is quite a different direction for them… i don’t know how i feel about it yet, but i threw it in anyway.

one of my favourite new discoveries has to be TV Girl – and here’s some most excellent news: you can download their entire album for free at stereogum.

i also posted a couple of these tracks over at Noonday Tune, a collaborative music blog by twitter pal Rowan who has rounded up 9 south african twitter folk to contribute a track a day at noon local time – the perfect accompaniment to the sound of cape town’s noon day gun.

This project expresses my desire of depicting women’s inner colour pallete alongside with their beautifullness with the help of flora. Thirteen Georgian girls aging 17 to 23 had a freedom of making their own crowns.

Working closely with Samantha and the great folks at Wolverine, I created a collection of looks inspired by the same amazing group of women who inspired Samantha’s designs. It was important to me to honor the spirit of adventure and independence and while creating looks for the modern woman, no matter if her adventures take her on safari in Kenya or on the subway downtown to the office. As a girl who wears men’s shoes on occasion, I really love the subtlety of the Samantha Pleet x Wolverine 1K Mile collection. Samantha doesn’t simply design men’s shoes for women, she combines the best of both worlds and has created something nuanced, nostalgic, but completely modern.

ps: The Bonny Boot pretty much ticks all my boxes for boot of the year.

amz has a knack for quickly making any space she occupies into a home – when we lived together in a tiny, tiny room in london (harry potter’s cupboard would not be an exaggeration) she managed to make it cosy & liveable. then later on when we shared a (luckily) bigger flat she filled it up with tons of beautiful wooden furniture – many of which were handmade by her dad. you can see some of his pieces in these photos, the kitchen table notably (love those tapered legs) as well as the laptop tray (brilliant) and the bedside lamp (i have on too).
