i just love the pageantry of dog shows, and especially how the owners often look like their pets (the dogs also look either horribly embarrassed or completely elated to be there).

my mom always sends me these forwarded emails, usually of cute animal stories. i couldn’t pass up posting this one (which you may or may not have seen before). i just love it! don’t know where it comes from and who took the pictures but, enjoy.

Samuli Heimonen: There is often something bigger than the human in my paintings. It may be an object, an animal or a construction. Most of the time people are part of that construction and live, as if, inside it and on its surfaces. My starting point is to show how things relate to people and how we humans interact…. hey, happy new year!
one of my resolutions is to go out and see more stuff – even if it’s just “in my own backyard”, so to speak. there’s so much i haven’t seen that’s probably only in a 10-50km radius of my house, and i don’t want to keep putting things off till i have enough money to go travelling again. why do i need to get on a plane to see stuff, right?
that being said, i think morran the dog has seen more of the world than i have.

catorialist = a cat version of the sartorialist – say no more.

the titles of the photos really made me lol though. “on the street…. that coat!”

chris appelhans is an american artist whose job, according to his profile, is “drawing for the movies”. here are some concept drawings he did for fantastic mr fox:

i’m excited for the criterion collection dvd of fantastic mr fox to come out (after the release of the film itself, of course) -- i love seeing wes anderson’s plans & drawings almost as much as the actual movies. here’s the second trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet (first trailer here)
