it’s funny that i have never done any kind of house tour, but the truth is our place is not pinterest worthy. not that it has to be. i could show you pics of the dishes in the sink and the weird basket i keep under the bathroom cabinet that’s filled with toiletries that are probably 5 years old (but i can’t seem to bring myself to throw away? what’s with that). but, you know, it’s not that cool. we don’t live in a magazine house and we probably never will.
Klara and Klemen are students of architecture who live in an old house in Moste, Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. they regularly walked past the once grand villa hidden amongst the trees in this old neighborhood, and wondered about the abandoned looking apartment inside – which, it turned out, had been sitting empty for 20 years. after tracking down the owner and making a deal to fix up the flat in exchange for rent, they got the keys and started renovations. you can read the story of the apartment on their blog Handmade in Moste.
you will know Leah Goren from her beautiful illustrative work, her clothing & accessories line and the amazing collaboration she did with Anthropologie. i check in on her shop all the time, and love sharing her new work here whenever i can. one thing i didn’t know, and i’m surprised by this considering how much i stalk cool people on the internet, is that she has a blog with her graphic designer boyfriend Dylan called A Future Present where they share bits & pieces from their lives in Brooklyn, including snaps of gorgeous devon rex Moses, and chronicle the ongoing DIY projects that make their little home look so cool.
i’ve spoken about my friend Amy before on the blog – you’ll be familiar with her famous collages if you’re a regular visitor. she has the best taste out of any person i know, and that is a fact. some might say she taught me everything i know. so when Kate and i were musing about who she should do her next house call series on (she blogs for local site its what i’m into) i suggested amz, as she is currently living in a mega cute cottage in the seaside village of kalk bay.
my mind is occupied with two main obsessions at the moment: finding & wearing the perfect winter boot, and cooking up decorating schemes for my apartment. these are unrelated topics, yet inexplicably intertwined – as i plan on happily stomping around my flat while wearing said boots.
well i sort of have to pinch myself, because i found an apartment! i suppose it’s quite funny considering i was a bit stressed about it in my last post – and i got the place the next day. now i’m just constantly daydreaming about what i’d like to do decor wise.
another thing i have been doing a lot of in anticipation of moving soon, apart from browsing etsy, is actually looking for a new place to stay.* which is a frustrating process, at best. so when i get sick of looking at dingy, overpriced flats i start looking for things that actually inspire me – like these two flats in Cape Town’s CBD designed by architects Wolf & Wolf.
i’v decided to dub Etsy the never-ending rabbit hole of desire & lust. not in a porny way, guys. there’s SO much stuff on there that i want to buy! i’m going to be moving at the end of the year & i’m quite excited by the prospect of decorating a new place from scratch. toying with the idea of selling all my possessions and just starting over – wouldn’t that be nice?
