blogging

elle oh elle

the september Elle magazine has been out since mid-august, and i was determined to wait till september to actually post about this – but i am far too impatient for my own good….

kim, lana, lauren and i were lucky enough to be featured in their spring issue for ‘the scoop on spring’. in case you read the article and were wondering what on earth i was talking about – here’s my post about atonement & morris and here is the old mac daddy trailer park. i also mentioned pastel blouses, this is what i had in mind:

if you discovered my blog through the Elle, welcome! and thanks Elle mag, what an honour.

drinks on me

i’m a bit late jumping on the south african blog awards bandwagon, but i noticed that the categories i kind of fall into are sponsored by jameson (fashion) and club havana (design). could people potentially win a case of whiskey and/or rum? in that case, i’m in. if you feel like voting for this wee blog just click here or on the button in the sidebar.

i’m hoping all my favourite local blogs will make it to the next stage of the competition and that they will be swimming in a pool of ginger beer & rum by the end of it.

priorities

jakob alt – 1836

spending time in a studio, whether it’s in front of an easel by the window or just at a desk, is probably my favourite pastime. unfortunately i don’t make that a priority any more – somewhere between work, eating, sleeping, friends & family, i lose my spare hours mostly to procrastination and the internet. how can i not, considering the never ending supply of awesome it presents me with? that’s no excuse though (and believe me, i’ve tried to make excuses). less internet, less computers... these are things i need to work on.

i know that it’s ironic considering i’m saying this on my blog – but maybe an affirmation is needed here.

replace facebook, youtube & yelp with art, design & fashion blogs (by david fullerton)

if you feel similarly, or perhaps there’s another aspect of your life you have been neglecting or just want to work on, you should check out mnmlist, a project about minimalism by the guy who brought us zen habits (a great website about simplifying your life and focusing on what’s important). leo doesn’t update mnmlist too often, but that’s kind of the point. one of my favourite posts is about making small changes, and i like his article about taking a digital vacation.

parisienne

http://i37.tinypic.com/2coj71v.jpg

parisienne is a the latest perfume by YSL, and they have enlisted some well known stylish people (joanna goddard amongst them) to blog for them:

YSL is sending five renowned bloggers on a journey around the country to discover and reveal their very own PARISIENNE experiences in New York City, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. YSL has chosen an ensemble of women with passions for beauty, art, design, music, fashion and food to create a travel diary of their trip. Stay tuned here to read articles, see photos and follow the women on their journey.

i like the concept because there’s isn’t heavy product placement in the stories (which would have ultimately made the bloggers look like sell-outs and the ‘experience’ a bit fake).

(ps: one of my favourite perfumes that i use often is YSL elle – so if parisienne is even vaguely similar, it’s probably amazing.  i am very partial to darker/rich scents like viktor & rolf’s flowerbomb, kate moss’ fragrance etc)
