i was contacted by Natasha & Joy introducing their new line Wolcott : Takemoto – and what a wonderfully simple and wearable collection it is.

Wolcott : Takemoto was founded by Joy Wolcott and Natasha Takemoto – Seattleites turned Brooklyn dwellers. Natasha studied at FIDM in San Francisco and Joy studied at Seattle Central School of Apparel Design and has interned with Mociun and most recently as a design intern for Rachel Comey for a full season. WT was founded with the notion of creative independence and design integrity with clothing that puts thought towards fit and quality.

of a kind is a pretty unique shopping experience in that they feature an emerging designer each week who releases a limited edition item in a small batch for the public to snap up (and they do – everything that i have browsed through is sold out.) it’s a lovely way to find out about new designers, as well as learn about them & their process.

this week they are showcasing the work of sara dudzinsky & her jewellery label better late than never. i was just thinking yesterday how i haven’t bought or worn a pair of earrings in so long, probably because most of the stuff i see in shops are still terrible hangovers from the gypsy/bohemian trend. that’s one of the reasons why i like her double crystal studs – they are clean & simple with just a bit of quirk.

i really like the lookbooks from jumperfabriken. they have a subtle vintage feel that’s all about the styling and details – without relying on fakey photo filters & heavy photoshop tricks. i also like jumperfabriken because they make nice jerseys (sorry, jumpers) – items i am dying to wear again. currently dealing with 38°C heat in my town today.

YAY! an online shopping option for south africans that is actually RAD. i’m talking about spence guys. they had the launch at field office last night. spence boasts threads from sa designers like margot molyneux, missibaba, take care, christopher strong, steffany roup and many more. my credit card is going to take a beating soon.

as i type this it’s 6.4°C outside (and i’m cursing myself for leaving my fingerless gloves at home). i visited one of my best friends the other day and her gran had left her a genuine fur coat in her will (i think it was… leopard? it was some kind of hectic big cat fur). i tried it on and even though it was lovely and warm i felt really, really wrong wearing it and had to take it off after not even a minute. perhaps if i lived as an inuit wearing fur would be okay, but for now i will just admire how nice it looks and maybe look for a coat of the fake variety.
