shorpy is one of those sites i should have discovered years ago, but instead only found in the past month via this via that via this via some other site i forget. anyway i’m glad i did because these vintage images are quality. and when i say quality, i mean HIGH quality.
Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. Most were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into jpegs.
some of my favourites:
I am a 22 year old graphic design student, born and raised in the dark forests of Sweden. I take pictures to remember, to preserve a passing moment and to distinguish interesting details from their otherwise average surroundings. I love traveling and take my best pictures when I travel. I have a fondness for all things vintage, typography and morning light. I have spent most of my life thinking I cannot draw. I am not yet convinced of the contrary, but at least now I am trying.
well said, hilda. her vintage items styled by colour are a dream…

i decided to start scanning in all our old family photographs, mostly for safety’s sake – but also to share some of the pretty radical images my parents have in their archives. you can see the complete (and growing) set here.
been finding lots of pretty things over at flickr lately…

i love grouping things by colour (you’d only need to take a peek at my fashion specials to figure that out) – so i was immediately drawn to these object collages by salbug00. i would attempt this but i don’t think i even own enough stuff, the benefits of living in a small flat i suppose. actually, i did sort all my books by colour – it looked something like this:

just… not as cool.
