Siki Msuseni is a young Cape Town based stylist & fashion blogger, whose hugely infectious smile and awesome hair always brightens up my day when i see her pop up in my social media feeds. she’s currently doing a series on Instagram where she shows you how to style 10 items in 3 different ways over 30 days.
“thank you Instagram, for introducing me to talented people i would otherwise never know about.” – i feel like that needs to be said every day. because that’s how i came across Tomas Wells, who takes great photos in Cape Town and beyond. follow him! he has a website, too. oh and yes – Cape Town is this beautiful.
combining two of my favourite things: vintage photos and Instagram, The Family Acid shares 40 years of film photography shot by Roger Steffens, and curated by his daughter Kate. love his double exposures, and often hilarious snaps like this one, “The day mom and her friends did acid and went to Disneyland. They never made it in past the parking lot. Anaheim, CA, 1976.”
i’ve been neglecting my Double Tap duties, mostly because i haven’t followed anyone new on Instagram in a while, but i’m looking to change that, especially with their recent app update (which makes it easier for you to discover cool new photos and people). and if you are too, then here’s a great one for ya: The Lion & The Lady. aka local photographic couple Leon & Marilet van Rooyen.
illustrator Charlotte Trounce has been doing these amazing illustrative recaps of select SS15 fashion shows on her Instagram account, which certainly deserves a Double Tap (i would triple tap if i could!) i feel like when you look at the seasonal shows everything starts merging into one big fashion rainbow, and sometimes it just takes one talented & creative individual to show you awesome aspects and details you might not have picked up yourself.
if you are a long time reader you’ll know Catherine of Wolf Eyebrows, who is a blog pal and fellow Capetonian. Cath has been doing some cool 30 day sketch projects, each with a theme, and documenting them on her instagram. right now she’s busy with “ailments and their plant remedies”. i admire the dedication it takes to stick to a 30 day project. follow along here.
wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas is probably my favourite person to follow on Instagram at the moment. i am obviously biased towards his imagery from Africa – the Ethiopian wolves are probably my favourite! though the giant mole rat comes a close second. you can see some amazing close-up shots of animals he’s taken with his BeetleCam (his own invention).
when a professional photographer gets on Instagram, you know you’re in for a good time. today’s Double Tap features Juanel de la Forêt, a photographer from Cape Town currently working in Paris / London with her partner Jesse-Leigh Elford – you can see their portfolio here. she takes wonderful snaps in her day to day life between travelling and shoots. she also has killer manicures. check out their tumblr for easy online viewing or follow WorldofJuju on Instagram.
i first discovered stylist & designer Justina Blakeney last year when she did this creative living room makeover (those colourful shelves have since become a signature of hers). i have been enjoying following her ever since, especially on Instagram which i find to be a good litmus test for how creative a person – is not only in their work life, but in their daily life too. Justina started experimenting with foliage portraits and her #facethefoliage series has since kinda exploded. they started off simply enough, but have progressed into elaborate portraits of real and imaginary characters and now regularly appear in her feed.
i thought i’d start featuring some of my favourite people on Instagram in a new feature called Double Tap – in case you are, like me, always looking for someone new to follow.
