just had to show you the way my sister-in-law wrapped all the homemade stollen & cookies that she gave everyone at christmas (cut-out reindeer tags!):
i ate those cookies all at once. AT ONCE. more cookies (note the vanillekipferl / almond crescents, my favourite):
and some more holiday pics, just cos i miss it:
ho-ho-ho-holy crap it’s christmas already!
(that’s me, obviously happy with my christmas loot)
i hope you have a lovely day, whether you’re in the snow or the sun… my christmas is going to consist of opening gifts sometime late morning (or rather, watching as my young nieces and nephews tear open their presents, and then ask if they can open mine too).
then setting the table & helping my mom make all the food – which will consist of a huge roast gammon (served cold in thin slices, with the most amazing mustard & condensed milk sauce – it sounds weird but it’s delicious!) – and probably a leg of lamb, a beef fillet or coronation chicken with roast almonds (or all three, yep, probably all three.)
PLUS various salads and other side dishes.
this will be followed by dessert… maybe strawberries & ice cream, or crème caramel or even a trifle (or all three).
and THEN coffee and homemade biscuits made by my german sister-in-laws.
after that? a long nap, followed by a walk on the beach – and then leftovers. oh yes, christmas day is nice.
tearing through presents in my awesome one-sie pyjamas, enjoying the christmas spirit.
the pioneer woman – a very well known blogger, ree drummond makes some seriously good looking food. probably my favourite recipe of hers is crash hot potatoes, basically the only potato dish i make these days. lots of olive oil, lots of rock salt, fresh herbs, cooked until super crispy – oh my. i think it’s probably the ideal accompaniment to summer meals – especially with some chicken kebabs from the braai & a fresh salad. go get the recipe & make it now.
my sister in law made these, she’s from deutschland so they are genuine german tarts (i think they’re called obstkuchen …. or obsttorte? you germans might have to help me out here). either way it’s her mom’s recipe, one was of fresh strawberries and the other of tinned cherries. woooooweeeee. naturally, i stuffed my face (and had to go lie down afterward). but the best thing about them is that they’re not too sweet (as opposed to, say, lemon meringue pie) – so you don’t feel all bad for having 5 pieces.
