The Stowe

i discovered The Stowe while browsing Craft & Culture, who are one of my sponsors – please have a gander on the right and support these amazing shops! designer Molly Spittal makes my kinda bags: simple, functional, leather, and with minimal hardware and detailing. this was the kind of bag that i was looking for in NYC, but in the end i got a beautiful Clare Vivier messenger (which i am not complaining about). if i was on the market for a new bag i would certainly be considering The Stowe. you can buy them at their online shop or through Craft & Culture.

The Stowe began out of a desire to produce beautiful, functional accessories. Using carefully selected materials sourced in North America, the Montréal-based studio designs products to compliment one’s life. Each hand-made item reflects the values of traditional craftsmanship and classic design.

Building Block

you know that feeling you get when you’re super excited and nervous? say, before a date with someone you really like… or after you’ve just done something amazing like bunjee jumped or skinny dipped (with that someone you really like). heart palpitations might be the right word. WELL. i just got heart palpitations looking through the pieces at Building Block. god, it feels like i’m a teenager in love or something.

Building Block is a multi-medium design project based in Los Angeles, initiated in Tokyo by sisters Kimberly & Nancy Wu. Its focus moves freely in between luxury and industrial design where utilitarian materials and processes translate into minimalist forms. With the intent of magnifying essentials and editing out excess, Building Block finds continual inspiration in returning back to square one.

Nancybird S/S 2013

the Nancybird S/S 2013 collection is probably my favourite so far. the new line is inspired by the coastal landscape of Australia – bright daisies, lobsters,  warm sand, weather ship ropes, sparkling sea and sunshine. those lobsters make me smile.

cowboy’s little girl

south africans know and love missibaba. well. i remember when my friend had one specially made and we all oooh’d and aaa’h over it (still do). their new range for spring / summer 2010 is un-fucking-believable.

i was on the verge of buying a pretty damn expensive new bag in paris, but i ended up leaving the store without it because i didn’t love it enough. then when i was on my way back to south africa i caught up on some internetting and saw the launch of the new missibaba range on a couple of blogs. YES. i thought, who cares about that stupid bag i didn’t buy? these are a million times better, and locally made. i have my eye on the buckaroo and the saddle bag, yes sir.

valhalla brooklyn

there was a point in my life where bags were to me what shoes are to some women – i usually couldn’t pass up buying one. but i’ve been using the same leather bag for the past 3 years (quality over quantity, eh?) and don’t really plan on trading it in until it falls apart at the seams. that being said, i’m pretty sure i could be swayed by valhalla brooklyn
