this is a home edition of These Things – a Home Things, if you will. at the moment my mind is quite preoccupied with making our place look nice. we live in a one bedroom flat in Sea Point, a suburb of Cape Town on the Atlantic seaboard – literally steps away from the promenade. this area has been having a revival of sorts lately, with new coffee places and restaurants popping up almost every day. and i can see us living here for a long time… as long as we never needed a bigger place (cough-kids-pets-cough).
i discovered california based furniture designer & artist Sean Woolsey through FvF who did a great profile of his home yesterday. what really intrigued me was his website that showcases his pieces in such a fun way. it’s so normal to see designer furniture in a cold and static setting, but seeing a kid in spiderman costume pouring cereal milk onto the surface of a beautiful table is so rad. i also really love his artwork, which he creates on cold rolled sheet metal & mixed materials including paints, patinas and water based acids.
you’ll certainly remember the amazing bags and jewellery by designer Syrette Lew under her label Moving Mountains. well, Syrette has expanded those design talents into a burgeoning line of furniture. the collection currently features multi-functional nesting tables, an a-framed mirror, a modern take on the traditional farm table and – one of my favourite things – a classic windsor bench.
