Browns Autumn 1988/89

apologies for the radio silence since tuesday – i’ve been catching up with friends before everyone disperses for the holidays and have also been wandering around cape town in search of the last of my christmas gifts. the most torturous thing about all this shopping is that i have to constantly hold back from buying numerous things for myself – especially when i was browsing around the many antique shops in kalk bay.

so when i came across this amazing autumn lookbook for Browns from 1988/89sweetly asked my boyfriend if he had a tenner on him so i could take it home (R10 is about $1.20, so it was a steal really). i absolutely love beautifully styled lookbooks, and this one just proves that having a batch printed on good quality paper is so worth it – because 23 years later someone is going to find it in a second hand shop or in a box in their mom’s attic and marvel at how relevant the fashion, photography and art direction still is.

Dress Up

i discovered australian label Dress Up while browsing through the website of studio And, who designed the beautiful A/W 11 lookbook. so many things i love about fashion and design are completely encapsulated here.

Once described as clothes for ‘the girl who thinks’, Dress Up is subtle, private and considered in its every detail. The label was conceived in 2006, by designer Stephanie Downey. Driven by a desire to create clothing that reflects human emotion, hers is a more sensitive, artistic approach to fashion. When we ‘dress up’, countless images learned and copied are compiled to create something personal and unique. Dress Up is inspired by this inherent human expression, both powerful and vulnerable.

the SS 11/12 collection is also amazing…

Licia Florio S/S 2012

today i received a lovely surprise in my inbox – the  S/S 2012 collection from italian designer Licia Florio.

Through choices of colour and material the Licia Florio S/S 2012 Collection shows a woman who is not seduced by style dictates, but takes her own road. A season inspired by seawolves, by independent personalities, travel and sailing. Light but concrete fabrics design the silhouette of a woman who really lives the city, free to express her personality. Colours of the earth, beige or bordeaux, build a harmony in combination with materials such as parachute cotton or organza. Round collars, small cuts that just show the skin, light transparencies and forms that envelop, these are the materialisation of clean and essential garments without edges. Each piece takes the name of a knot, which ties in with the fabrics and becomes the symbolic detail of this collection, Seawolf.

be sure to check out her previous F/W 2011 collection … the black & pink has my heart.
