this vibe

i know that a lot of the fashion i post is very bright and quite LOUD on the print scale, but mostly i tend to go for far more neutral colours in real life. black is a favourite… and jeans of course. prints wise mostly things that are pretty chilled. i also love just plain white, grey, navy, light denim blue, dark greens & browney / mustardey colours. i wish i could be more adventurous sometimes. i once stood in an h&m for literally 10 minutes hovering over an electric blue oversized sheer blouse. walked out of there empty handed, and regret it to this day. you idiot! why didn’t you buy that electric blue blouse? and so it went for the next 24 hours on the plane ride home.

variations on a theme

kirsten dunst attended a couple of shows during NY fashion week, this outfit was just perfect…

SHIRT – day: marc jacobs (american apparel has a nice budget option) / night: see by chloéPANTS – day: tsumori chisato / night: alexander wangSHOES – day: asos / night: isabel marant

i tagged along on a shopping trip with one of my best friends this weekend who was on a mission to find smart pieces that she could wear to work, that could also be versatile enough to use in day / night outfits. we actually man-handled those exact isabel marant shoes (amazing in blue, and i’m 99% sure they’re the same ones kirsten is actually wearing.)

that being said, this is the kind of outfit i would wear to work if i needed to push the smart scale up a couple of notches. then again i think it works beautifully for a night out too, as is the case with kirsten. any kind of menswear is awesome to me – and you can’t go wrong with a fitted white shirt (the peter pan collar is a nice girly touch without the frills.) probably the best thing about the entire outfit is the fact that she doesn’t need to wear a belt – perfect fit and tailoring

perhaps this is a bit of a ‘no duh’ post, but i think it’s important to remind ourselves of the simplicity of a good shirt.

cavalier essentials

Cavalier Essentials seen via wit + delight

a line of vintage products designed for the rugged, yet sophisticated gentleman. … “If Steve McQueen carried a beat-up leather duffle bag on the back of his motorcycle; what would be in it and how would the products look?” This simple idea married an appreciation for lifestyle design and vintage accessories. All of the products possess a hand-made quality while responding to the modern influences of today’s culture.

gucci’s corduroy

did all the designers of the world flip a switch of some magical machine that travels across the ocean and reads my brain waves? because they’re hitting all the right notes for the new collections. i mean, i don’t even like gucci… usually. these are three looks from their pre-fall 2011 collection that i love. that green get-up is amazing  - except for the bag. still can’t get the bags right, gucci.

plaid jackets

i wish there was a description that went along with these photos, all i know is that they are titled “plaid jackets” and they’re from 1950. perhaps the plaid jackets was some kind of boy’s club at an ivy league university, you had to wear tartan waistcoats and jaunty newsboy caps to be a member. cool.
