Morocco Mamma

Morocco Mamma

if you follow me on Instagram you may have caught some photos that i was sharing from my mom’s photography trip to Morocco. she first picked up a camera in her fifties and started taking photos with slide film, then eventually transitioned to digital. she now regularly goes on photography trips with her friends, most recently to Morocco – but she’s also been to Cuba, Bhutan, Turkey, Canada and all over Europe.

hopefully i can share her “official” photos with you soon. but for now here are the photos she sent me via whatsapp. they were quite a hit on IG! #moroccomamma even went on camel back into the desert.

for those who might be wondering, i do call my mom “Mamma” – it’s an Afrikaans name for mom.

TEN & Co.

thanks to Zinzi and Lizzie for introducing me to TEN & Co. – a shoe label that specialises in oxfords that are handmade from vintage Moroccan rugs & supple leather. designer Tory Noll was on a trip to Morocco when she stumbled upon a tiny shoe shop in Marrakech and on a whim had some simple oxfords made from scraps of carpet – and so TEN & Co. was born.

Every pair of TEN & Co. shoes is cut from unique vintage and antique hand-woven Moroccan rugs and supple leathers.  We scour rug auctions, souks, Marrakech flea markets and the Atlas mountains to find strong, colorful rugs and blankets that tell a story in each shoe.   Handmade in small batches by a cobbler in Marrakech, our shoes combine a classic Oxford with the vibrant colors and patterns of North Africa.

the beautiful lookbook was shot by Adam Hribar, art directed by Priya Sanghvi & Dan Goldstein, and styled by Leila Thurtell and Eva McCausland.
