i won’t make a habit of posting youtube videos, but this song has resurfaced in my playlist this past week and has enjoyed numerous repeat plays once again (it’s in the top ten most played songs on my ipod). cute video, too.
jeesy, i haven’t done a music post in a while! come to think of it, i was working on a timeline of the music that shaped my life (when i say timeline and working, i mean me flipping through my old CD collection) – but that soon turned into a mini-essay and i decided i wouldn’t bore you with such inanities.
well, this is one of the songs that i would include on my music history list. funkdoobiest – rock on was on almost constant repeat sometime during 1998. it’s a stellenbosch / cape town / beach / sundowners / road trip tune.
everyday she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair, wraps a towel around her as she’s heading for the bedroom chair – it’s just another day.
i used to sit in the living room on my mom’s brown curdoruy couches (!) listening to another day over & over. for some reason i always imagined he had written it for linda mccartney (or at least, she played the protagonist in the mini-music video of my mind, her towel was pink). i associate it with the eighties (because i played it from this album) – but turns out it was written in 1970 & was paul mccartney’s first solo single. linda does sing backing vocals, naturally.
once in a while i discover a band whose album i want want want and all the music i can get my hands on gets listened to over and over (so far this year it was passion pit’s “manners”, that became hideously overplayed – last count it was over 100x for “moth’s wings” alone)
anyway, this is how i feel about freelance whales. a taste from their album weathervane:

i am really loving the new kings of convenience album – declaration of dependence
probably my favourite song : Mrs Cold (youtube video)
