News!

Yay!

hello! i am still away on holiday, but i thought i’d let you know (if you don’t follow me on twitter or instagram) that Anton and i got engaged yesterday! we got up at 5am to go watch the sun rise over the sea from the cliffs at Kei. i jumped out of the car as soon as we got there to snap some pics on my iPhone, like a true instagram nerd, and when i turned around to look at him he asked… and I said yes. oh, what a feeling.

we drank some champagne and i quickly downloaded an app so we could take a self timed photo (the reception was really great on that hill) and then some curious Nguni cattle came to witness the whole thing. it was the most amazing morning, and we are still in a glorious, happy daze.

i will be back in the swing of things from next week. hope that everyone had a great holiday season, looking forward to the year to come!

Stuff Lately

edit & update: i have changed my image hosting to Amazon S3, which is working out great so far. i decided to put my whining about Flickr to rest, after hearing many compelling arguments for the privacy / pinterest issue from Flickr users and bloggers alike.

here are some of my most recent pics from instagram. since opening up the app to android users millions of more people have joined in on the fun – so if you’re on instagram now follow me with my username miss_moss or check out all my instagram pics here. here are some things i’ve been doing lately…

been settling into my new place, which means procuring new pieces of furniture (a slow and budget wary process) including my new couch – which is now boasting some warm textures, ready for winter. also hanging up a few pictures, sunning myself on the balcony with pink drinks and trying not to kill my beautiful succulents (seen above)

i’m lucky enough to live just down the road from the south african national gallery, which means i can pop in there whenever i wish and check out the exhibitions. there are some interesting ones at the mo, listening to distant thunder by peter clarke is a notable one… but i have to admit i was more taken with the wild geese and their babies hanging out on the lawn outside.

Goslings!

i visited the Woodstock Foundry, which is an amazing space on Albert Road in Woodstock that houses such gems as the The Lobby hair shop – also known as the place where i got the best hair cut of my life (need a cut? Craig will sort you out – that goes for boys & girls). also dropped in on my pal Andrew’s place Selah, who is working on some amazing pieces at the mo – note the hanging plant from Opus in the foreground (also located in The Foundry).

we went to sutherland in the karoo for easter weekend, it rained which is always amazing to see in the desert.

Rabbit Hole

i’ve been trying to make the blog a bit more fun to explore since there are almost 2000 posts stretching back 3 years littered all over the place. so now if you click on a post, you will see ten related posts with handy thumbnail previews pop up in the sidebar to your left. i hope that this helps you discover posts you’ve never seen before, and that it will be especially handy to those of you who are new visitors to the blog (hello!)

so if you’re reading this via rss please remember to click on a post if you like it, because you’re bound to find more of the same in the now-magical-sidebar. i must admit that i actually got lost in my own archives testing these puppies out…

the screenshot below is of this sting posthelloooo sting. helloooooo jeremy irons.

… i hope a few of you get the plethora joke.

oh and if there is any way i can make the blog even more magical and user friendly for you guys please let me know in the comments. on an unrelated note – can you believe it’s almost december & the end of the year? what the what!

You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

this little blog has been going for almost 3 years now, and as it grew i began to receive enquiries about advertising & sponsorship opportunities from people all over the world. i’ve been holding off on that for a long time, because i wanted the blog to grow and develop naturally and, to be honest, i didn’t even really know what i was doing! to say that it has exceeded my expectations is a vast understatement – i enjoy blogging more with every day, and i often daydream about having more time to discover, create and share interesting content.

the main reason why i have made the decision to open the blog up to sponsorship is so that it would relieve some of the pressures of real life (i.e. paying bills) and will hopefully allow me to put more of my time and energy into the blog – because i LOVE doing it. and i want to keep doing it.

so, this is my first step in making my blog a grown up… or a young adult, if you will. i have been quite busy this week working on a new design which i launched yesterday (for those of you subscribed via rss – please take a look!) and you may have noticed that there is an entirely new sidebar to the right… just waiting to be filled with potential sponsors.

if you’re interested in advertising please email me at missmossblog@gmail.com and i will send along a fancy little pdf containing information about my stats and rates. there will be six ad spots available to buy on a month by month basis.

i find this picture quite funny because i don’t even have an iMac, haha.

in other news, one of my best and oldest friends Jessica and her fiancé Luke are getting married this weekend! you may remember Jessica from our now-stalled food series, as well as her blog & restaurant Nook. i am an official unofficial wedding photographer so hopefully i’ll be able to share some shots with you next week (as long as i get permission!)

Not the Nine o’Clock News

just a bit of news! Alison kindly invited me to do a guest post over at Etsy. i love Etsy, i’ve bought a few vintage dresses and other bits and pieces from there over the years – i love the way you can buy directly from a seller and the fact that you’re not limited by the usual we don’t ship internationally problem. but  i have never really explored Etsy thoroughly – so when i was putting together this post i really took advantage of their discovery features like handpicked items,  suggested shops, treasury lists etc etc. it is like going down a never-ending rabbit hole of awesome over there, people. i suggest you get browsing. my lists were inspired by some of my colour coded mood boards over at Pinterest.

the other exciting bit of news is that i’m in the South African Marie Claire this month as their featured About A Blog! I still have to pinch myself when i see stories about the blog in magazines that i grew up reading & buying every month. it is pretty surreal and kind of grand. many of the photos in the article were taken on my trip to paris last year.

Miscellania

thank you all for your wonderful response to the Rewardrobe post! it made me feel a bit better about getting too “covety” around here (want want want / need need need). i suppose i wouldn’t actually spend diamond money on designer clothing… i’d probably pay my rent first. but i can’t make a let’s get excited about paying the rent collage, so let’s leave it at that. the truth is that i could have made that list about three times longer in a heartbeat – which is where the next bit of news comes in.

i decided to try out Pinterest again. i had previously signed up when the site first started but never really got into it and closed my account in an attempt to cut down on my social media / bookmarking addiction. psh. i’m actually laughing at myself as i type this. what was i thinking! so, if you want to follow me on there please do – but that invitation comes with a warning: you might get irritated with all the pinning that’s going on over there. this is what i did in 1 day:

in other news, i’ll be doing some guest blogging over at hila’s blog in the next week along with jen and anabela. here is my first post outlining summer positives – as hila and i are both allergic to the heat i thought it might be a good idea to convince ourselves that summer is actually okay.

please see the post for all image credits

also in the news vein is a little mention in the new Vodacom magazine. to all my international readers – vodacom is a south african cellular network. pretty nice, since i am actually a vodacom customer. free data, please? also featured in the article are blog pals Vicky from I Want That / I Want That Wedding, JP from Eye Candy and, naturally, Joanna.

click through for a readable size

you may also have noticed that there are some fancy lookin’ rollovers in the sidebar. how about that! i’m just experimenting for now, in lieu of a complete blog redesign (or at least a blog face-lift).

i know things have been a bit thin around here, posting wise. trying to juggle real life, online & offline projects without losing my mind / losing my eyesight to computer screen glare is a bit of a daunting task sometimes. anybody have tips for time management? better yet, how about some tips for overcoming procrastination? that has always been my achilles heel. refer to social bookmarking addiction above.

in non-blog news – just to break this up a bit – be sure to get your hands on the new Beirut and the new Gotye albums. Both are GREAT and have been enjoying repeat plays on my iPod.
