i was conflicted about doing this post because the one thing i feel weird about is “designing” your kid’s life, or creating a remotely instagrammeable lifestyle for your kid. on the other hand i think some kids things are pretty sweet, and i find myself straying into kidswear departments pretty often now that we are expecting one. we are already receiving thoughtful baby gifts and being asked what the nursery will look like – and a big part of me wants to say hey hey hold your horses, it’s not even out of my body yet, can we NOT do this?
Annie Costello Brown’s jewellery line ACB is full of dramatic & oversized hand cut hammered pieces; made from silver, brass and gold, fit for Frida Kahlo or an Egyptian queen. Annie has an interesting back story: growing up on a houseboat in the San Francisco Bay area in the seventies, surrounded by artists, musicians, and craftspeople – so perhaps it’s no surprise that her jewellery is so interesting and eclectic. you can read an interview with her at Jean Stories.
look, i never pass up the chance to peruse a new online shop. some i can skim for a couple of seconds before closing the tab, others – well, i get sucked in for a good long while. that’s how it turned out when the friendly people from Beech Hall pointed me towards their shop with an imaginary hieroglyphic hand. hieroglyphic because the seasonal collections from Beech Hall are themed, and the debut collection is all about Egypt.
if there’s one thing i can count on every year it’s that designer Claire Pignot is going to release a lovely new collection for her label Heinui. yep, just take a look at the FW15 collection. the Lenny dress is a particular favourite, and love the embroidery on the Luisa dress. oh also the Ernest jumpsuit is super badass. you can peruse everything on her online shop (ships worldwide!)
oh sheet, i think i’m gonna have to convince my husband that we need pink bedding. i’ve absolutely fallen for these dusty blush, rose and coral hued sheets from Texas based shop Magnolia Armor. interestingly some friends and i had a conversation about when duvets first came to South Africa – as previously everyone just slept under plain sheets + blankets. it was like, what are these fluffy clouds of magic?! duvets, comforters… whatever you may call them in your country. these are nice ones. though i think Anton would probably prefer the grey.
one of the saddest things about living in South Africa is that i can almost never partake in online shopping. all the stuff you see on the blog that i love so much? i can never buy it. it either takes 6 months to arrive, gets lost in our dismal postal system, or i get charged customs duties up the wazoo. so i feel like it’s your duty, dear reader, to buy these things for yourself and revel in their greatness. you can click on the images to be taken directly to the specific item.
when i first saw the new FW15 collection by Electric Feathers i thought to myself, “i need a legit reason to wear that gold lamé dress right now.” but actually, you know what, you should be able to wear gold lamé whenever you like. in fact, why not go full jumpsuit while you’re at it. that rope dress is also something else.
you won’t believe how many new jewellery collections were released in the past week, so i thought it was an incredibly appropriate moment to do another Jewels compilation. this is a mixed bag of treats – so i’m sure there is something you would like. also: great gift ideas. also, also: ear cuffs are still in. check out more favourite jewellery here.
