Through the Jungle

19 through the jungle

it’s a new month – music mix time. i know things have been kind of slow on the blog lately, but i’m totally blaming it on the mass of public holidays we’ve had around here. been having too much fun offline during the holiday time – as i’m sure is the case with many of you south africans. that’s actually why this mix is 2 days late. how embarrassing.

i have been wanting to make a compilation that included a creedence clearwater revival edit / remix for ages now. there was a nice response to R/MX … so i guess this is like a R/MX Vol. 02.

must thank greta who sent me the nico remix. i try not to have too many repeats around here but it’s a pretty cool take on these days. it’s ever so slightly hit and miss in places, but i still couldn’t resist putting it in. the owner of a lonely heart edit is admittedly just sort of… a better version of the original. oh i love it. it stays.

also need to take this opportunity to make a shout out to a reader who emailed asking if i could perhaps create a mix that would help mend her recently broken heart. i hope you are feeling better and that this mix will help cheer you up a bit (even though adele features…) well, perhaps it will make you dance long enough to forget your troubles!

all music is for sampling purposes only – please go out and buy the artists’ records & support them at their shows!

perhaps you have noticed a common thread that pulls together most of the mixes so far… there is usually always a remix in there somewhere. i simply love them, and experience a serious thrill every time i discover one of my favourite artists has been remixed –  especially when it’s done in a creative way. i also find myself tolerating some commercial music that i wouldn’t usually listen to when it’s been treated to a great remix (ahem-britney spears-ahem)

so why not an entire mix dedicated to them, mmm? i knew this mix had to be kind of upbeat because of the debbie downer situation i probably put everyone into with ships in the night, and there’s nothing like an unexpected take on a favourite song to put people in a good mood.

R/MX. listen above or on 8tracks. playlist:

  1. Bob Dylan – Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine) (Mark Ronson Remix)

  16. Michael Jackson vs Telepopmusik – Remember The Time (Sleeper Heartbroken Remix)

ps: a couple of these might be considered mash-ups, but i think of them in the same way. this was also extremely difficult to cut down to a workable size. expect a volume 2 and 3 in the future.

interval workout mix

if you’re a gym goer, or even if you run outside, you might be interested in this 35 minute interval workout mix i put together – it’s all fun electro and remixes of cheesy pop songs. i’ve done a session on the treadmill with this puppy & it’s super helpful not only for knowing when to push your speed/incline up & down (no more looking at the timer) – but your workout goes by quickly. download it here.

(note: there’s a read me included in the zip file showing you the breakdown of the intervals which you should probably scan through before trying it out.)

* just thought i’d take this opportunity to show you this clever packaging for panasonic earphones

very good advice

i have to admit this off the bat, alice in wonderland’s soundtrack has to be one of my favourites. i know the words to every single song, and almost nothing gives me more joy than singing along to ‘golden afternoon’. hah! i’m not ashamed.

here’s a trippy video & awesome electro mashup of ‘very good advice’ (you know, when she’s all sad and lonely – walking through the dark forest and the little critters want to comfort her, shame.) it has over 2 million views, i can’t believe i’ve never seen it before!

via uno. it’s even more trippy if you watch it like this (recommended)
