Yo Vintage! Spring!

i noticed yesterday that a lot of people were tweeting Spring! Spring! and this coincided with a lot of new lookbooks in my inbox celebrating the change in seasons (coincidentally i wore BOOTS this week for the first time in months so i am equally happy).

Yo Vintage has just released their fun new Spring lookbook as well, featuring the usual vintage goodness (you HAVE to browse their vintage section – they has such great pieces) and also featuring new bags by designers Falconwright and Primecut.

& Other Spring Stories

i went for a little window shopping jaunt during my lunch hour and realised that suddenly it is straight up winter in our local shops. which is quite ridiculous because it’s still the middle of February and it’s HOT outside. it will be for a while still. yet, the colours have suddenly gone from bright summer hues to dour winter shades and – for the first time in my life – i actually lamented the onset of winter. why does winter = blacks and dark reds and navy and all that other stuff that is so readily associated with the cold? i want to wear bright things all year long (well, theoretically, since i usually just wear jeans and tops – but you know what i’m saying)

and this is something that i have of course noticed online as well. since most of the sites i browse are in the northern hemisphere, where you guys are obviously DYING for spring, the mood has completely changed as if people are almost saying, “it’s coming! summer is coming!!”. probably one of my favourite online shops to browse is & Other Stories * – and they have embraced this wholeheartedly as is evidenced on their front page. flowers and pastels and bright pops of colour so damn cheerful i can almost hear birds singing.

it’s awesome.

* i can’t attest to their overall quality because i have never been to any of their shops in person, but my husband actually bought me a dress from there when he was overseas recently (after i helpfully sent him screenshots of “things i like”) and it is lovely. akin to Zara or any other big retailer.

Three’s Company

there are a few new collections i’ve spotted around lately – three in particular – that have been making me quite excited for summer, and it only makes sense to share them all in one go. three’s company, three time’s a charm… you know what i’m saying. love the vibrant block colours from Dress Up (and the model is SMILING and having fun – yay!), digging on the greek holiday feel that Wren is bringing for her spring collection and really appreciate the floral goodness and summer skirts happening over at Kelly Love.

thanks to Mallory and Jen for sharing Dress Up & Kelly Love.

Samantha Pleet Spring 13

Mallory shared the latest Samantha Pleet spring collection over on Gems yesterday, and it pretty much nails what i’d love my wardrobe to look like this summer – especially those floral numbers. the one thing that has been quite difficult for me to find, in south africa at least, is the perfect skirt length… which in my mind sits somewhere just between the knee at the calf, and hangs in that perfectly soft way that a summer skirt you’ve worn in for many seasons tends to do.
