soooooooo… Birkenstock, huh? as soon as the topic is raised someone will pipe up, “but i’ve been wearing them forever!” – and, it’s true. any reasonable person will tell you how comfortable they are. i practically lived in mine when i was a teen. my German sister in laws have been wearing them for decades. so it’s kinda cool to see them so de rigueur right now. i particularly love the Monterey black on black version (which, it turns out, are pretty hard to find!) and the white Arizona. not bad for a shoe brand that’s 240 years old.
i abandoned tumblr a fair few months ago because i simply could not keep up with so many bookmarking sites (and it feels like there are new ones popping up every day, which is pretty scary). since then i’ve been using Pinterest exclusively, but i really missed Wearing the Pants (which is archived for your pleasure) – so i started a new board with the help of style mavens Cath and Mariah. here are some recent favourite Wearing the Pants moments.
i’m really excited to share the first Food & Fashion Mash-Ups series i did for Bon Appétit Magazine! which is a superb publication by the way, we don’t get it in South Africa but i was lucky enough to be given copies of their two latest issues. something i really appreciated was the beautiful design & layout of each issue – admittedly the first thing i look for in a magazine. i especially loved their story The Incredible Egg and the Insider’s Guide to Paris in their latest issue.
i thought of covering some of the recent fall runway shows, but instead i’m leaving that up to kate who will be doing a little round-up as part of a guest series that’s going to kick off later this week! i’m moving into my new apartment this week, so i’ll be pretty busy packing, moving and unpacking – and i’ll be without internet for a while until i get my new home connected. luckily for me, and you, some of my favourite bloggers will be contributing guest posts while i’m away.
get ready for an entirely nonsensical post combining my love for food and fashion. outfits good enough to eat? food good enough to… um… wear? no matter! just enjoy it for what it is.
one of my new years resolutions should probably have been to stop complaining about the heat. i live in africa, i have done for 28 years, i need to get over it. WELL. that will never happen. i actually day dream about the cold. i look at pictures of girls wearing crisp camel coloured coats and actually get kind of weepy. i am particularly drawn to the lovely dark mix of blacks, browns and navy… accessorised with beautiful leather bags and jaunty hats. sigh.
