the new SS15 collection from Johannesburg based milliners Simon and Mary has made me realise that i really need a yellow hat for summer. and a blue one. maybe even a green one if i’m feeling fancy. i love seeing their classic styles in such rad colours.
Isca Greenfield-Sanders encapsulates summer and nostalgia in her paintings. she finds, scans, edits, and prints vintage photographs, alters them with watercolour and pencil, then mounts details from the images onto tiles before, finally, painting over them in oils.
even though summer is on the way out for us down south (i wore boots yesterday for the first time!) i can still appreciate some breezy summer wear, especially since i basically spent all last summer in long skirts or dresses.
i’m not sure when pineapples became the fruit of the moment, but they are certainly enjoying their day in the sun – popping up in every lookbook, photoshoot and fashion editorial i come across these days. WELL. maybe it’s time for bananas, right? or how about a juicy mango? i’ll be taking bets on the next fruit du jour.
Nomad is a fashion label based in Porto, Portugal and Stockholm, Sweden – an interesting combo that you can see in their clothes. a bit of a Mediterranean feeling, combined with that pared down Swedish design sensibility. the SS14 collection, Road to Dambulla, was inspired by a journey through Sri Lanka by bus: easy to wear pieces that you can just throw in a bag and go.
Heinui is a label by French designer Claire Pignot. you may have spotted her first collection around the internet a few months ago, featuring beautiful blue and denim pieces. her new summer range, Paper Moon, expands on her love for denim and also features some light cotton & silk pieces that are beautifully dyed and printed.
