MATTER

MATTER

beautiful new styles from MATTER. see my previous post introducing them here.

September is a month of the wind changing, and we feel the weather’s momentum intimately, given rain and shine affects when we print what. It’s a departure from previous editions with darker prints on lighter backgrounds, with a sense of transience and weightlessness. you know i’m a fan of wearing the pants, and if they’re designed specifically for comfort then they’re even better. the debut collection from MATTER, a socially motivated clothing line founded by Yvonne Suner and Renyung Ho after a trip across India, features “pants to see the world in”. they are made from Tussar silk cotton, with no zips to snag or clasps to break.

Karen Walker x Kenya

Karen Walker x Kenya

Karen Walker teamed up with the UN’S Ethical Fashion Initiative to commission Kenyan artisans to make screenprinted & beaded pouches for her Summer 2014 eyewear collection. some of the artisans involved – machinists, cutters, tailors, production managers, metal workers and members of the Maasai group who create the beading work – are featured in the campaign, which was shot by photographer Derek Henderson (who also shot her previous campaigns).

I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies.
