Cape Town Love

i first noticed Megan & Mike Gilger of The Fresh Exchange when they tagged me in an Instagram photo of their travels in Cape Town – they had been making use of my Cape Town City Guide to discover some cool places to see. i always get the warm and fuzzies when people tell me that the guide helped them in some way, and when anyone visits my city for that matter, so I clicked over to their site and what a nice discovery.

Megan is a talented designer and together she and Mike have a design studio called Wild Measure. on their trip to Cape Town they collaborated with Over to create an app in 24 hours (!!) that with allow people to celebrate their love for Cape Town, featuring Megan’s beautiful hand-lettering, appropriately called Cape Town Love.

The app was inspired by the city we have been working in for the past 6 days, and we wanted to develop something that did not just offer another pack of graphics, but meant far more. We wanted to find a way to celebrate the Mother City, and to help encourage people to discover the beauty that we have found in this place.

read about how they created the app in 24 hours here and watch a short video by Megan and Over designer Aaron Marshall. the app itself is great to look at and a dream to use. i think it’s pretty damn awesome that a handful of talented Americans created such a lovely app that’s so appreciate of our city. download it here.

Daily Dishonesty

Lauren Hom contacted me about her Daily Dishonesty project which is simply super rad. she’s a graphic designer based in NYC who started a series of hand lettered posters that document the little lies she tells herself on a regular basis. i can definitely relate to all of them. she also takes on weekly guest posts – this one by Emma Hopkins made me laugh. “I don’t know what’s wrong with my phone…” so true.

Lauren also shared a tutorial on her process from start to finish – really inspiring for those of you who want to dabble in hand lettering. you can also buy prints from the series at her Society6 shop.

Wayne White

i try not to re-post stories from mega-rad blogs like It’s Nice That because i figure everyone else reads them too (and if you don’t, you should) – but this was too good not to share and share again.

Wayne White’s word paintings are exactly my cup of tea – milk + sugar with a dash of wit and satire, please.

Wayne has had great success as a fine artist and has created paintings and public works that have been shown all over the world. His most successful works have been the word paintings featuring oversized, three-dimensional text painstakingly integrated into vintage landscape reproductions. The message of the paintings is often thought-provoking and almost always humorous, with Wayne pointing a finger at vanity, ego, and his memories of the South.

all paintings by Wayne White. story via It’s Nice That.
