Vintage

shorpy

shorpy is one of those sites i should have discovered years ago, but instead only found in the past month via this via that via this via some other site i forget. anyway i’m glad i did because these vintage images are quality. and when i say quality, i mean HIGH quality.

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. Most were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into jpegs.

hilda grahnat

I am a 22 year old graphic design student, born and raised in the dark forests of Sweden. I take pictures to remember, to preserve a passing moment and to distinguish interesting details from their otherwise average surroundings. I love traveling and take my best pictures when I travel. I have a fondness for all things vintage, typography and morning light. I have spent most of my life thinking I cannot draw. I am not yet convinced of the contrary, but at least now I am trying.

well said, hilda. her vintage items styled by colour are a dream…

alice, finally.

GUYS i’m going to go watch alice in wonderland tomorrow. not just tomorrow, tomorrow morning. yes, that’s how eager i am. there’s always something strange about sitting in a dark cinema when it’s light outside, but there you have it. anyway, in honour of this momentous occassion, i thought i’d share some alice in wonderland imagery i enjoy.

i just died and went to vintage opel heaven

ooooh i spent way too much time yesterday perusing this collection of pics from a vintage opel calendar. WHY don’t car companies still make awesome stuff like this? now it’s just these flashy photos of big shiny black cars cruising along with light beams flashing past them and what what. BORING. i want to see my car in fields of lavender and reflected in some pristine lake in switzerland. WITH PEOPLE. who are dressed nicely.

things

i wasn’ t planning on posting today because i’ve been sick in bed for a day and a half. however, there’s only so much sleeping and tv watching a girl can do before feverish boredom sets in. so i decided to play around with my camera which hasn’t got much love from me lately, and took some shots of things i own & treasure.

i found this cup & saucer in a second hand shop in kleinmond. it was made by a finnish company called arabia (i assume it’s from the 50′s/60′s) and is, by far, my favourite thing to drink tea / coffee out of. if it ever had to break, my heart would break. best of all – it has no chips!
