what the what! i’ve posted about elsa mora before, but i hadn’t seen her new venture, as it were, until now.

A miniature book is a very small book, sized from .5 inches square to roughly 2 by 3 inches—no larger than 3 inches in height, width or thickness. These books became more popular in the last few decades of the 19th century because they were portable and easy to conceal.

Artists’ books are works of art realized in the form of a book. They are often published in small editions, though sometimes they are produced as one-of-a-kind objects referred to as “uniques”.

miniature artists books! go have a look at them, they are un-flippen-believable.

  1. Slightly different, but I have a set of what are known as “midget classics” – a complete collection of minute Shakespeare plays – Hamlet, King Lear, Romeo & Juliet, Merhcant of Venice, the whole toot!

I bought them from an antiques dealer in Knysna and they are pretty much my most prized possession. The best thing about them is that they all live together in this little box and they are completely psychedelic! Strange, but true. Each cover is a different psychedelic symphony of colour and pattern. Must’ve been published in the 60’s or 70’s when not even Shakespeare was allowed to be staid :)
