This is killing me! The loafers + chickens, the headkerchiefs…gah, the fashion, even for casual wear, was so fantastic then. Awesome photos.

I love this! I especially love the oversized back-button sweater, with dead chickens in hand. Vogue, take some notes please…

I like the one wear they are chopping wood. it reminds me of my grandmother, a woman who once asked me “where could I find a chain saw for ladies” ; )

Oh wow, I adore these. I spent the first 5 years of my life on the family farm, then moved back here a couple of years ago. Because farming runs deeply in my family history I have such a fascination with the way things used to be on farms.

    Thanks for sharing!

I love the photos… They are so beautiful!!! The bunnies are so cute (well, my friend has one home and it eats always all the cables the finds on his way :P)…
    Great post!! :D

I love the back buttons. And that fact that women are doing awesome work with animals. Great find!

This is my dream life, although I doubt I’d ever actually be able to live on a farm.

THIS I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a dwarf rabbit as my animal companion and he’s a sweetie pie who likes his treats, but this morning he is not feeling well … could be the rain that is pouring down now (but I haven’t left him outside in that … he’s an indoor bun.)

    Great post Miss Moss!

Love the pictures! Has anybody read ‘The Have-More Plan’ by Ed and Carolyn Robinson? These photos look like they were taken on their farm, and one of the models looks like Carolyn herself! And the little boy could be her son.
    Thanks for posting these!

I do not look this glamorous while out milking my goats!

  • June says:

I don’t think I’ve seen anything that funny in a long time, considering I have yet to find a remaining shirt without a hole or stain on it, and that every pair of shoes I own has chicken poop on it somewhere given that they poop everywhere… I can just imagine truding out to the chicken yard in heels…. although I’m sure my husband would love the red lipstick even if I was wearing a feedsack…

I absolutely LOVE your blog! Honestly, well done you clearly put a lot of work into it.
I’m actually doing and essay for college on fashion history and I have a question about the Life Archives you’re sourcing from. I’ve clicked onto the link that you have and it brings me to a page which shows all the different decades but when I click on them it just brings me to the google image page, it says all the images are sourced from the Life Archive but they’re not the quality as the ones you’ve on your blog. All of your pictures have the Life logo on the bottom right but none of the photos from the link have them. Where can I find these type of pictures/ am i doing something wrong?
    Thanks so much :D
