i received a mail quite some time ago from The IOU Project with a link to their video:

i found the concept really intriguing & exciting because nurturing artisans and promoting sustainability is totally my cup of tea, but at the time their site had yet to be launched – so i decided to wait before sharing it with you. well, i am really impressed by the items now available for purchase in their shop (especially since i recently expressed my love for checks) and even more impressed to see the stories that each piece took from weaver to designer to artisan…

founder & creative director Kavita Parmar says about getting started,

The idea was to rethink the clothing manufacturing and distribution chain to really serve the artisan, the designer, the final client and be sustainable for everyone instead of just enriching a few at the top end. IOU is an experiment in creating a prosperity chain, that allows goods to be produced and sold in a way that benefits everyone involved.

i really think this is such an incredibly worthwhile project… so the next time you’re on the hunt for quality denim or beautiful dresses and shirts made from quality fabric – pay The IOU Project a visit.
