there was a time in my life when shopping for stationery was basically the most exciting thing i could think of. nagging my mom to buy me a new pencil case – “i can’t have the same pencil case as last year!” – and then covering it in all manner of stickers , tippex and permanent marker. filling it with precious items like an untouched eraser and kokis that weren’t dry yet (what do you call a koki outside of south africa?) covering my school books with pictures from magazines and clear contact paper – without making any bubbles.
i haven’t derived any pleasure from stationery in a long time, because i don’t make anything with my hands any more. what’s that all about! it might be time to get back to basics (or school)
