i’ll be the first to admit that i don’t buy traditional food magazines, and i don’t even really browse food blogs (unless i’m hungry), but what i AM interested in is beautiful photography, art direction and design – and Gather Journal has these in spades. Michele Outland and Fiorella Valdesolo have pulled together some serious talent in the launch issue, the theme of which is float…
From floating in salty ocean water with the sun beating down on our bellies, to meals so fresh and bright they have a certain buoyancy about them, it’s a word that evokes pure summer. And we loved the challenge of dreaming up recipes that would conjure those very same feelings.
the food of course looks absolutely delicious – but it’s not just about gorgeous eats… it’s also about the act of dining, drinking and coming together to enjoy the crap out of it. they really had me when i spotted the corner of an ashtray in the beautifully styled photograph accompanying a recipe for Thai Ginger Punch. genius. the magazine will come out bi-annually (summer & winter) so find out where you can get yours here.

Ridiculously gorgeous.
I loooved reading (mostly looking at) Gather. When we were in Montauk the hotel had a top-notch magazine selection & it was too nice to take all this summer food to the beach with me.
Absolutely gorgeous images…and the cheese doodle made me chuckle.
I’m with you…I usually don’t go for food blogs/magazines/websites. But when it’s done this tastefully I love them. I think it’s just knowing that it’s not just beautiful and delicious food, it’s realizing the act of sitting down anywhere anytime and enjoying life. x
BEAU-TI-FUL !!! makes me want to cook.
wow these are seriously stunning photographs. and now i’m hungry!

How beautiful! I really love the lighting/colours of these photos, and would love to see one of your mix tapes inspired by the joy of food, cooking and spending time with people :)
great images/photography! similar concept to kinfolk, which i love.
amazing photography! I do love food blogs, but I only follow the ones who feature good photography. Thanks for sharing!
That is some sexy food photography, holy crap! Are you familiar with Haute Food? I think that magazine also has a lot of potential :)

Beautiful pictures. I love the edge, and I totally agree with you on the atmosphere those inglamorous details make.
I just stumbled upon this myself a few minutes ago – looks like they’re on to something!
