if you’ve perused my Cape Town City Guide you’d have noticed the plethora of local fashion boutiques that we are lucky enough to have in our fair city. they stock mostly local designers, something that is dear to the heart of many including myself. i’m very proud of our local shops and designers – on any given day i can walk into one of these places and find something i want/need/have to buy (this is why i try not walk into them too often).
fashion label Good Clothing and local boutique Mungo & Jemima have launched a campaign called Love ZA Buy ZA, and recently collaborated with Shoestring Productions on a beautiful video to launch the initiative.
Our hope is for all local designers to use this campaign to promote their businesses. To create awareness of local brands and help a struggling industry compete with the competition coming in from abroad. We have so much talent in South Africa; we want people to get excited about it and be proud to wear it. At least 80 000 jobs have been lost in the local clothing and textile industry over the past six years as companies continue to close their doors. We want to help change this.
you can visit Good Clothing and Mungo & Jemima at the Design Indaba Expo, which launches tomorrow, to learn more about the initiative and get involved. buy local!
