if you’ve been a long time reader you’ll have noticed the many, many redesigns i have undertaken on a whim around here. luckily the current one is probably my favourite, so it’s going to stick for a long while. but the one thing i don’t really bother with – or rather, never wanted to tackle – was a logo for the blog. it’s so hard designing for yourself, let alone trying to put your, erm, personality into a logo. i always let the content of the site speak for itself and tried to keep everything else pretty minimal. sometimes i’d go the really lazy route and just type Miss Moss into MyFonts to see what new type would possibly dazzle me. that never worked.
then it’s as if an angel came down from hand-lettered heaven – in the form of Erin Ellis. Erin is a designer & illustrator originally from New Jersey, now living in New Zealand, who specialises in hand lettering. she kindly offered to try her hand (ahem ahem) at a hand-lettered logo for the blog, and needless to say i JUMPED at the chance. i have always been a fan of lettering and beautiful script (did anyone else notice how amazing Nick Carraway’s handwriting was in Baz Luhrman’s Great Gatsby?) – but have never had much of a talent for it myself.
Erin is, as you can see below, a pro. here’s just a snippet from her extensive portfolio:
she whipped up two lettering styles for me – and a few variations of each. Below you will see the two basic styles, and i am totally in love with both of them…
now comes the hard part… which to choose? i thought i’d open it up to the floor and see which version you guys liked more! check out the screenshots below of the different options in context. no.1: option 1 in black; no.2: option 1 in blue (love the blue); no.3: option 2 in black; no.4: option 2 in multi-colour and BONUS OPTION! no.5: option 2 reversed on a watercolour background.
you can click on them to make them to see larger versions.
