i received a comment the other day from a fellow south african asking for more local gift ideas, which made me pause and reflect for a second. personally i only buy local products for christmas. i think we have amazing designers & makers and i am lucky enough to live in a city that brings all that to the fore. i usually go do my shopping sometime in the week before the 25th so that i absolutely leave everything to the last minute and stress myself out as much as possible. kidding. i like going out and buying gifts, looking at things myself, discovering new places and new people! around this time of year we have great pop-up shops and markets selling the wares of a multitude of designers. i will always ask if their products are available online, sometimes they are – but a lot of the times they aren’t. that’s the only reason why i don’t make solely south african gift guides.
that said, i don’t want to leave you hanging. so i made an effort to peruse some local online shops and find products from a few designers that i like – if you are too scared to leave home and brave the masses this holiday season. here are some pop ups in Cape Town where you can buy local gifts at the moment: South African Market in Bree Street, Present Space at the Lifestyle Centre in Kloof Street, The Fleet in the Bo Kaap and Fabricate in Cavendish. also be sure to check out my City Guide for more shops to visit.

This is fantastic! Thank you :)
Love this gift guide :)
Awesome round up of the amazing talent to be found locally!
Thanks, Diana! I always struggle with finding South African made gifts for my family back in the States (at this point, a beaded penguin no longer suffices). I can’t wait to check out the markets you mentioned. Really appreciate your work – keep it up :)
You are the best Miss Moss!
That was my comment and I commend you!
Happy Christmas and well done on a blogtastic year :)
Lovin everything !!!
Personally, I don’t leaving Christmas shopping to the last minute either but it’s sometimes just inevitable when I have no idea what to get for some of my friends or relatives. By the way, these fox socks are so so lovely, thanks for sharing them here :)
Thanks so much for mentioning Fabricate. The support of locally made products has been fantastic. Thanks for the feature.
this is awesome, diana! thank you!
Hi,
I just wanted to come and thank you and everyone who commented on your New York post earlier. We visited New York early November and had many tips for your blog. I’m now posting my New York trip photos this following week. I loved the city!

That kimberly rug is going straight to my wish list!
This totally fills the gap – thank you!
I love all the colours! It is so different from the nordic design that we have here in Finland. :) Thanks!
