if you’re a Capetonian (or just a South African girl, really) you’ll be more than familiar with the wonderful Selfi, whose clothing i just a-d-o-r-e. designer Celeste has done it again with her new SS14 range. how sweet is that peplum cut out dress? i also absolutely love the flap strap dress. see more at their website & online shop. the shoes are by Diomande.
The name Selfi was created from the word self which stems from the dreamlike, juvenile part of the self which remains dormant to most. The idea was to unlock this state through playing with pattern, form and shape. Recreating, manipulating and ultimately capturing an essence or a spirit of the time. Ideally each piece should reflect a nostalgic, dreamlike connection between the wearer and item. And ultimately create form and shape from an essence which is formless and shapeless.

A look book including fruits can only be a winning look book !
i am curious about your images/choices in reference to certain stereotypes
thank you for your dialogue

Considering that the lookbook is for & by a South African designer, and that stereotype (which is, as your Wikipedia article points out, “an American stereotype of African Americans”) doesn’t apply to our cultural heritage – it really has no place being raised here.
I’m assuming that’s not a global stereotype. I’m originally from the Southeast region of the United States, where there are unfortunately still too many awfully ignorant people who regularly make these kinds of references, so I can understand the association, though I didn’t make that connection at all. These women, dresses, and images are really beautiful, and I look forward to a time when others can appreciate them without seeing something perverse.
thank you.
The second dress is so very beautiful. Perfection really.
This collection is sooooo me! Thank you so much for sharing. :)
Adore the second dress – beautiful photography, do you know who the photographer / stylist was?
