here are some bad-ass women to inspire you this Friday, who flew in the face of convention (pardon the pun) and trained as airforce pilots in 1943. despite the magazine describing them thusly, “girls are very serious about their chance to fly for the Army, even when it means giving up nail polish, beauty parlours and dates for a regimented 33 weeks.” can you even. you can read the original article in LIFE magazine here.

I have already seen a lot of photo’s from WASPs and WASP uniforms but some of these photographs I had never seen before! I love the history about women during WW2 and I would love to find a WASP uniform once (but they are hard to find and expensive).
Those girls were amazing, just like every other women who for the liberty of a lot of people… So don’t only remember all those brave men who fought but also the women who were behind them.

I loved seeing these images… My great-great grandmother, Clema (Baxter) Granger was a racing/stunt pilot in the 1930’s, and was a member of the Ninety-Nines women’s flying group. She flew with Amelia Earhart and other great female pilots of those early days. She, and other women like her, never ceases to inspire me.
